Is this a good price for mounting/balancing 18's ?
Tuesday, November 08, 2005 6:04 PM
I've been calling around to various shops in my area, and the cheapest I am looking at for mounting/balancing all four rims and tires is $140 at Big O Tires. Is this a decent price, or am I going to be paying to much? I paid only $60 last year to have new tires put on my stock 16's. I'm just wondering why there would be an $80 difference in price. Any insight is appreciated.

I don't see why they want so much. $60 is pretty standard mounting/balance cost. but I have no experience w/ 18's so can't say 100%

I hate to say, pep boys, its like $20 a wheel to mount and balance.... Just watch them like a hawk so if they fack up your rims, they'll fork out for a new set.

Well, i got them mounted and balanced for $100 from America's Tire, which is the company I bought the tires from, so it all worked out good.

I did mine for free. Just quickly find a friend who is a mechanic and can help you. It's not that difficult to mount and balance.

yea pepboys i wouldn't go to.... i used to work there their machines are not properly equipt to handle 18's....the clamps on the machine scratch the rim and on one case actualy gauged pretty bad we had to buy the guy a new wheel. I've also working in the auto at wal-mart u used their machines to mount my buddy's 19's machine worked great so i'd go there the prices aren't all that bad either

^^^Yes they did, actually. I went to every single tire and rims shop within a half an hour of my house, and the cheapest place was Pep Boys, which was $75. But I decided to go to Big O Tires because they were right around the corner from my work. I was quoted as high as $180 for all four tires and I was like.... I think that out here it just costs more to have work done. Plus I wanted a place that I kn9ow wouldn't scratch up my purty polished lips.

I paid 100cdn mounted and balanced, it depends on the shops in your area, never go to the first place that quotes you, pays to shop around.

I pay $7.50 to mount and balance per wheel/tire and a local shop, $30 to do all 4 whels and tires. IMO $140 is outragous.

That is pretty high, but it isnt unlikely. Usually if you are getting nice rims mounted, the highest place is probably the better one to take it to. More than likely that shop has an expensive tire machine that is meant to do nice rims. And, a lot of shops out there are deathly affraid to do rims liek this, they are easy to f-up. Also, if you dont want any weights on the outside, then they jack up the price for that too. I know at our shop, usually it is only 10 bucks a tire to mount and balance, but if the tire is under a 50 series, we automatically add 2 dollars, cuz any1 that has mounted any low profile tire knows that it is a living bit*h, also, if you dont want weights on the outside of the rim, automatically add 3 dollars a rim, just because it takes a while to get them balanced wtih stick-on weights, then, depending on how much weights u use, those stick on weights are expensive as all h-e-double hockey sticks. So the old saying proves...get what you pay for, other than in some peoples case they get the hook-up, like me! I can do mine for free people....ya...i know you are jelous

Yeah, my wheels have a really nice polished lip and I didn't want to take the chance of them getting f-ed up even slightly. The Big-O tires I took the wheels and tires to does have a really nice machine, and thats why I took them there. Like I said earlier, I am more than happy to spend a littl extra to get a good job done. And they did a very nice job with the stick on weights too.
