Allright, My girlfriend hit a curb in her 2000 Sunfire (Well, more like skidded on the ice, slammed into the curb and damn near flew clean over the median). I had to replace both of the 15" steel rims on the front, and have an alignment job done. Now the car drives as good as new, however one of the rims was purchaced from Crappy Tire, and its deeper in the center part, and the hubcap won't screw on properly. I managed to push it in and get the little plastic nuts to grab the threads on the lugs, but its looking like the hubcap just may come off at any second, and it looks slightly crooked.
Now, my question is, is there such a thing as lug nuts with a longer threaded area on the outside so I can put the hubcap on properly? Or did Crappy Tire just give me a rim from a different model which is exactly the same in every other way, and I have cause to go back there and get the right rim, and have them re-install and ballance the tire at no charge?
Thanks,
Dubie
ok so let me get this straight. the center of the rim sits farther in but you want longer lugs? wouldnt you want smaller lugs so the cap would fit?
if i were you, id take it back and tell them they got you the wrong rim
Sorry, not quite clear enough...
If you were to set the rim so the inside was towards the ground, the little bowl formed where the rim bolts to the hub is deeper, therefor the factory lug nuts with the little threads on them don't quite reach the crappy plastic nuts on the hubcap properly. (I only got them just grabbing the first few threads). I need lug nuts with more thread on them, so I can put the hubcaps on without pushing the center of the hubcap into rim so far that the edges start to lift around the outside of the rim.
By the way, I already checked with Crappy Tire. They say thier crappy aftermarket rims may not fit hubcaps....It might be worth the 30 bucks to just get the old rim bent back into shape, and use the new rim as a full sized spare...I realy hate those little temporary spares...
Thanks,
Dubie
