Wheel Bearing installation!?
Thursday, January 19, 2006 10:10 AM
So I went to the shop today and they wanted to charge me 70 dollars for changing my front wheel bearing (cheapest, best quality shop around). I went around looking for wheel bearings at different types of stores and found out that the price of the bearing itself would be 55-cheapest and 90-most expensive one (they all came with a kit as well). So with that in mind, I was wondering if I should install it myself, and if so, what would I need and how long would it take me? Thank you before hand.

Well, pull the wheel. Then:

1. pull caliper and set it aside
2. Remove rotor
3. Using proper size allen head bit on 1/2 inch ratchet remove three bolts that hold hub assembly on.
4. Pry the old hub assembly off from the knuckle, will slip off of the axle shaft too.

Then just reverse for installation. Should take about 30-45 minutes each side.
