Mad Skilled Wheel people Only.. 18x8.5
Monday, February 27, 2006 7:13 PM
Ok I REALLY want 5Zigen Fnoir-c's on my car and the only 18's theuy make the black polish in is 18x8.5 with +48mm offset.. my buddy and I were discussing that the only real way to do it is longer wheel studs and spacers.. BUT that adds a lot of strain on the bearings.. any other ideas?

i ran that kinda setup on my car, go for it, you wont have any problems, i am using different wheels now but i have the long studs still and im about to run wheels spacers so i can have these wheels out a little, as i dont like the way cavy wheels are in the fenders, i like them kinda even with tyhe sides

QBE, im gettin the same wheels for a 97 sunfire GT, ceptt 17X7's with 225s. and im still trying to figure which i want, 35 or 48 offset. some people suggest 35's in the back to make em even witht he fender and 48s up front with a spacer if i need one. . but i'll prob just get the 48's all around
are you dropped?

no real signifigance, i just felt like posting

you might ask Joshua Dearman. he's working on a spacer for the Neon rear disc brake conversion that might come in handy here too. if you were to space the hub/bearing assembly off the knuckle, it would take the strain off the bearing.
I like the idea of putting the 35 offset rims in the rear and 48's in the front to even things out inside the fenderwells.

I am dropped 3 inches easily....

these only come in 48mm offset in the 18x8.5

problem si they DO make 18x7.5 but not in the black polish design, I am going to call tomorrow and ask.

I have spacers already (ebay ones) but not longer studs... where could I purchase longer studs?

how much stress would be placed on the wheel bearing if I purchased longer wheel studs and spacers.. how MUCH more stress would be exerted on the ebaring?

A lot more stress, I have never liked the idea of spacers. If you do it, be sure to get the hubcentric rings and drive carefully.

i have a 525 horsepower s10, full stock setup, except lowering springs and motor, it has 17 inch wheels, with wheels spacers, that convert front wheel rims to rear wheel drive, they are like 1 inch thick and i have had no problem, been drivin it harder than any cav will ever be driven, im telling u wheel spacers are not that bad, i just ordered a set for my cavalier, i dont like the way my wheels stick in , i got new studs from jegs, they were like 13 bucks for a 5 pack, , it looks alot better when ur wheels are even with the fender

I tried to run 19x8.5 and they told me that it would be too wide, that even with the fenders being rolled, I would rub,

who is they?

and those are 19's which wouldnt make much of a difference..

dik if I want to chance this and get the rims, get the machine work done to them that would be needed (hub centric is to small) and the spacers and studs only to fail... my fenders were rolled for my 19's but those were +35mm offset, these are +48, but that I wonder if that extra half inch that I move themout would make a huge difference

Your wheel isn't going to fly off or anything lol. It'll just make the bearing wear out quicker than it normally would.

im not sure of the part number, as far as the bearing wear, they might possibly wear a little faster, but if you have money to spend on nice wheels, mods, and custom stuff its only part of the game, you have to give a little to take a little, like lowering ur car, you then have a bumpy ride and @!#$ wears out faster, but the car looks and handles nice, its part of the game, but in a normal car usually wheel bearings dont go out, ur car may never need to have wheel bearings replaced even if u run wheel spacers, so i wouldnt let some bs that could maby one day happen hold u back from wheels you want
