are 205/55/16's the same size pretty much as the 225/50/16's? I'd like to get the 225's if I could find some stickier rubber. good idea?
You're gonna wanna stay with a 55 series tire, regardless on a 16" rim.
they are the same diameter but the 225 is a little bit wider, not by a lot tho
225/50/16 has only 1% error compared to 205/55/16.
im gonna try and run 225/50/16s on my new sunfire rims i am getting.
having that 225 will be much nicer when it comes to road contact of course.
get the 225/50/16s!

I recenty got new tires for the stock 16" wheels and initially wanted 225/50/16. The guys at a couple of shops and the techs at TireRack all said the tread "may" bow outwards because a 6.5" wide wheel is not the optimal size for 225's - it's safe, but not the best width. So I went with 215/50/16. The problem with this size is it significantly reduces your choices of tires as it's not a very popular size. Still some good choices avaliable, but maybe not exactly what brand/model you are looking for.

205/55/16 is the best size
for a 17" IMO the best meat is a 225/45/17, which is appoximately 1 in wider, thus a 17x7 rim correct?
^ I like 225/45/17 too. I tried 215/40/17 and you could feel a lot more of the road, plus it just kinda looked wrong (to me).
