hey guys, i got my wheels back from refinishing. for those that aren't sure wtf i'm talking about:
i used black magic wheel cleaner, it wrecked my wheels. pennzoil (b/m maker) came good for the repairs.
MY QUESTION: the owner of the shop DOESN'T clear coat, as he claims the clear coat can chip off. he suggested using simple car wax, and a cleaner called autosol, or auto something. does anyone else on the .org have rims that aren't clear coated? if i don't clear coat, am i at a larger risk of damaging the wheels?
BEFORE:
AFTER:
LOL, as nobody else seems to know, i'll share what i've found out:
i called the manufacturers of my rims today to ask about clear coating. the person i spoke with said they DON'T RECOMMEND clear coat on any of their rims, as it pits and can chip.
Quote:
if our rims needed clear coat, we'd sell them clear coated
he suggested using car wax, to build up a protective layer to make removal of brake dust etc easier. then continuing once a week
Hmm, I never even considered using wax on my wheels. Is it just your style of wheels that don't come clear coated? I'm pretty sure that the z24 16's (I have these for a reference) come with a slight clear coat as well as do some other styles of wheels. Just curious.

You don't need anything on them at all just beware of road salt come winter time!
Now that they are no longer clear coated you can polish the CRAP out of them and have them looking like chrome with a little time and some elbow greese
DISCLAIMER: please note elbow greese is an expression meaning hard work not that you can actualy get greese from your elbow.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

you're comparing factory to after market. but they said no eagle alloys are sold clear coated.
i'm gonna play it safe and get some meguirs gold class for the rims, and that buff ball that foose promotes. to answer you question about the clear coat, i've yet to find any polished or chrome wheels that are clear coated....but i also haven't looked hard either
