put on new rims and car is shaky
Friday, March 24, 2006 6:54 PM
I just got some 17" rims is 215/45/17 tires.... i am currently using the old lug nuts from my old rims, and i dont have hub centric rings. Well when i drive my car isn't as smooth and when i get up to 55 you can really notice how much shakier the car is. Anything that can help this?

Quite possibly they need to be rebalanced but you should also invest in some hub centric rings.

get hub rings unless you like replacing studs often

you need a balance

i used to work as a major rim distributor in chicago

hub rings are a joke

check that your lugs have the right "seat" on them

i wouldnt use stock lugs on aftermarket wheels either, if you were

the only place that used to order hub rings from us was 'discount tire'

i used to also sell to 'just tires', and other large and privately owned companies

granted, they do help

but its only idiot proofing for those who dont know what they are doing

so i guess, that might fix the problem

of you can make sure your wheels have the correct centerbore and right lugs

get them balanced, get nice new mc guard lugs and locks, use the star pattern, and hand tighten them

and, by the way, ive been here for 6 days hahahaha

Well i only have one problem. I can't find any for my rim. Wheelsnext told me the center bore was 67.9. No one sells hub centric rings that are 57.1 x 67.9. Their are none on ebay either. You guys have any ideas? I need some....

today is the 28th (technically)
so that would make it 9 days
and hubcentric rings center the wheel when mounting it
vibrations come from off-balance or off center wheels
so hubcentric rings could be the solution
and they arent that expensive

not only that they take stress off the studs since the wheel is not centered around the studs anymore which in most cases will save you from replacing the studs often

this is what I need I think...

I changed wheels back to my stock 16s.. and I dont think I have rings, since I changed wheels it wobbles.. put other ones back on and they wobbled.. and I kept snapping lugs to the point two broke at once.. wheel fell off and crushed my fender when I landed and broke a wheel.. I need to fix this !

I will look into hub rings..

The lugs aren't suppose to hold the weight of the car the hub is. The lugs are to hold the wheel to the hub tightly enough so the hubs can hold up the car. I'm rather surprised that a tire distributor doesn't know this. Why do you think that lip is on the hub for anyway? Thats what supports the weight of the car. The hub rings act as adapter so the lugs aren't trying to support the car. from what I can see it would appear that discount tire is the only place you delt with that knew what they were doing.

Get the rings they cost like 2 to 5 bucks each and are cheep insurence that you don't damage your car. There's no excuse for not useing them.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

Correct.

Saying Hub Rings are a joke shows your lack of knowledge on the subject. I will however agree that the plastic ones are not worth crap. Get metal ones.

Maybe this will help...

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/products/?sfID1=270&sfID2=278

Contact them maybe.

Call Discount Tire Direct also, or stop at a local one.

don't mean to be rude, but for 50 bucks you could have had them done somewhere that knew what they were doing

I needed hub centric rings... the car rides alot smoother now. I just have to go get my tires rebalanced.
