stripped lug
Saturday, April 01, 2006 4:46 PM
ok, so i took off my wheel to put on my lower motor mount this week, and when i took off the nut it was crossthreaded,
When i got it off the lug had been stripped to the point that its almost smooth.
What do i do to take care of this problem?
can i just replace the lug somehow, or what do i do?
Thanks in advance

replace the lug for sure. i would probably replace the stud while your at it. if it was cross threaded, there is a good chance your stud is buggered too. both are a pretty easy thing to do, and i know i have seen how to guides on either here, the ny j-bodies site, or i think eazy ent's web site.

have fun.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

A general idea on how to replace the lug? how does it come out... do i have to take off the whole brake assembly

Ive always taken the brake assembly, rotor, and shield off the back, then you can pound the stud out with a hammer (pound on the front of the stud and it pushes it out the back) make sure you rotate so the stud has room to clear out of the back, then feed the new stud through the back. you are gonna need to pull it through, I always tighten a lug nut onto it, then it pulls the splines through, then take the nut back off and reinstall everything- hope that helps a little

you can get them pretty much anywhere, they should have them at any auto store

nice dude...yea its not that difficult and the stud isn't expensive...good technique.

my friend had to replace one recently after a test drive when I forgot to tighten front right lugs after installing front sway bar...really dum...he was a bit pissed... lol what u want from free labor?
