Having problems in front driver side wheel
Saturday, April 15, 2006 9:59 PM
Okay, here's the skinny:
Since I got this car (02 Cavalier 2.2) every time I turn the wheels to the right, I got a loud humming noise, as if something is rubbing, almost sounds like the tire is slightly rubbing the wheel well. However, I know for a FACT that it isn't hitting the well, because I've done the "Paint Test" and cleared that up. So, after that I called the cat I bought the car from and he tells me that the wheel bearing is going out, so I drop a fat 80 bones on one of those. I installed it, wheel turned perfect, worked fine, still yet the noise exists! I've had my step-father look at it several times (he's a mechanic) and can't find one thing that is possibly out of place, damaged, or anyhting that could be causing the noise. If anyone has idea of what this could be, please post and get me with some details. A list of possible causes would be ideal. But, any input is appreciated. Thanks.

well, sounds like a wheel bearing issue, mine did the same thing, but since you changed it and it still does it, don't know what else man

possibly a ball joint going out? I've had so many people look at it and they just can't figure it out.
I noticed another symptom today. When I'm slowing down, at a traffic light for instance, it feels as if the front right wheel is rolling over small speed bumps. It's barely even noticable, it's not like I'm speeding over an actual speed bump, just a minor little feel. I can notice it though. It's definitely there. If anyone has any idea, please help a brother out.

are you sure its not the power steering pump "whining"? I am having the same noise coming from my 03 when I turn the steering wheel to the right. I replaced the wheel bearing also and it did not fix my problem....... I am thinking its the ball joint as stated above. Please post your results if you fix it!

Yeah, we replaced that too. Everything in the assembly looks fine. I was shocked when even my step-father said he couldn't rule it out, because he's the kinda guy who just knows cars in and out. So, I really can't say anything that it might be from my own guessing. About this steering pump? Is it possible? Likely? Can it be located easily to be looked at? Thanks bros.

humming noise is usually the wheel bearings

hmm
well, if it's usually the wheel bearing, then I dont know. I just replaced it with a brand new one from Advance, so I have no idea how it could still be humming. Any ideas?

I had the same problem. Humming on driver side. Replaced passenger wheel bearing. Humming went away.

Truly? So, can I just switch the bearing around? Or will I have to buy another specifically for the left side?
