Well the time is coming up soon that i will be needing summer tires.. I currently have Kumho 712's in 225/45/17's and i dont know who has tried these but they dont seem sticky AT ALL! and they seem to wear out VERY quickly and i dont spin them much at all..
Now my old man just got new tires on both his cars and i am looking at them as posible choices for me..
1st set - BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KD's... these are on the 87 GNX and seem to hold pretty good even with the big power its putting out.. just dont have very deep tread's and the wear rating is 200AA A
2nd set - GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D3's... these are on the 02 Trans Am and he says they hold not bad either, about as good as the tires that came with the car stock, but he also got 4 summers out of them and he drives pretty damn hard on them...
then the last set i am looking at are the GoodYear g-force T/A KDW-2's... which are on Srt-4's stock... and i was told they grip pretty good but then they are only 205's stock where as i am going much wider...
Now any other suggestions would be great... What i am looking for is a tire that is VERY good in dry conditions as well pretty good in the rain as this is a daily driver, and sees the track as well...
sizes i am looking for as well are
- 255/40/17
- 245/40/17
and yes i have checked clearences already for these sizes... they will rub very slightly only when turned all the way to either side...which is only very slow parking lot speeds...
let me know your suggestions and what you think...

silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
Out of those choices, I would go with the bfg kdw. Its a DD so it will see some rain right? You might want to look at some Falken azenis as well. They are very sticky. Lots of choices and prices, look at some reviews on tirerack. I hate the Kumho's also.

i have the 712's and have had no issues with them at all...real good grip to...only thing i hate its they seem to get stuck in grooves on the road...like on highways...i dunno if that makes sense but...anyway maybe its cause of how much hp ur car is pushing?...i mean a turbo and a supercharger haha yeesh
I just got a set of General Exclaim UHP's today in 225/45/17 for my Fire. I have read really good reviews on them and figured for the price why not try them. I'll have an opinion in the next week or so once the miles get going.
03 fire. Yeah's it's an ECO.

I had the 712's and thought they were crap. I know what you mean about how they track the road.
Josh, It going to be tough to get a tire to grip hard with the 360min treadwear. The lower that number is normally translates into a sticky tire.

the g-force sports are great. I have them on my car now.
If your area doesn't get much rain and your looking for maximum traction, I'd reccomend Azenis RT-615's (my autox tires havn't had any rain for em yet)
the 512's are all season, but are very good and will last a long time.

I heard the Falkens were
in the rain, so I looked elsewhere.
^^ You heard wrong. The azenis sports are they only ones that don't do great in the rain. The new st615's are better than the older st215 tire.

well see the thing is i need to find the fine line bettween good wear and last like 3 summers... but also be able to hold over 250hp/tq at the wheels almost right off the line.... i know its not going to happen so i have to find the best of both....

I can pretty much garuntee that no tire can hold that much power off the line that will fit on your car.
Even my measly 150ftlbs or so can spin R-compound tires on a launch.

I currently have these, love 'em for a street tire....testing out the alky injection we hit triple digits at the bottom of an on-ramp and they held the slight curve very nicely. Teins/Falkens make a beautiful combo
.
Where did you find that they're a "AA" though, or are you referring to traction/temp together? I recall them only being a single A traction wise, though they are great in the rain so I wouldn't doubt a AA rating.

well 255/40/17's would be leaving about 10" foot print which would be pretty big... so even a tire not being to stickiest.. will still grip...

How wide are your wheels? You are going to need a 9" wheel to have that 10" wide footprint.

nope... thats what i thought too... my uncle put 315/40/17's on his 9" rims... on his SVT cobra... i went down and talked to the tire shop and they said yes they will do it... and my rims are only 7" ahah so yes they will buldge but if the tire shop says they will do it and still warenty it.. then im going to do it...

Thats going to look stupid dude, not to metion with them buldged that much you are risking safety and performance. Either get the right size tires or the right size wheels.

why would a tire shop say they will do it and still warenty it all if they thought there would be a safty issue with it? you would be surprised at how many cars around he you see with over sized tires on rims... almost every supra i see in town has over sizes tires on...over 90% of the cars i saw tonight at the races had the same thing... and actually my buddy has 255/40/17's on his 7.5" rim... so only 1/2" bigger then mine...
