I just got a 95 cavy about a month ago. The guy I got it from works for the company that makes the rims for gm, chrysler, etc. The car came with z 5-star rims (95ish z rims) that are black. I thought they were just painted black, but talking with the guy I came to find out the the are the only pair ever made that came out of the factory in black powder-coat. I guess they were just made as a test sample and he got his hands on them.

I'm not tryin' to be an ass, but due to he put them on or had them made doesn't mean they are stock. They will still look just like anyone eles that has powered coated their wheels. Unless you can order them from GM like that they are never stock.

They do look exactly the same as any pair of rims painted or powdercoated black, but I was suprised to find out they were done factory (not stock cause they were never sold) like that. The guy said he still has the test sample tag somewhere, and he is going to get me that. So that they will be documented as such (factory powdercoated. Sorry camera isn't working but I will try to get some pics up. Butfor a quick reference they look like this rim only all black.
Okay, you said they were the only pair. Did you mean set? Because a pair would be two. I'm horrible at math but that leaves you two wheels short. Kind of like I'm a few bricks short of a full house.

unless you get your hands on a document from GM stating they are these super rare wheels, then its BS. you know how easy it is to powdercoat wheels?

There's nothing wrong with a stock rim. Hell, I'm mounting stock rims on my car. They just happen to be stock rims from an entirely different car.
Well first off GM doesn't make rims they contract them out. And the only factory that makes the these exact rims is Amcast of fremont, their gas city plant however makes the the newer split five stars. And yes it is a set of four. I finally received the tag that states they were a test sample. Which means that not even GM knew they were done. And Im not sayin they are something great,b ut that they are the only set from factory (as I am sure that many people have either painted or powdercoated the same style of rims black). So I know Im not the only person with a black set. I have a couple of friends that worked their and knew that they were legit, but as was said without documentation it means nothing. As for pics I have started a new job and haven't had a chance to get a pic taking, but I am trying to get a camera to take a pic with.

yeah I know but the text time I get to hang out with my friend with the digital camera is june 10th (we have a show to go to for the company), but Im hoping to get pics of the rims sooner.
