I have 15 x 8 inch wheels and I need to pick a size for new tires for them. I have a set of winter tires for my old wheels so I'm not going to use these tires in the winter, but I do commute over 440 miles a week to work in New York City and I am a little concerned about rain when it comes to Summer tires. I don't think it would be fun to hydroplane all over the I-78 when I'm driving to the city. Or are summer tires ok in the rain in comparison to all-seasons. 225/60 or 225/50 are the only sizes that I can find all-seasons in. The others are pretty much all summer tires.
What would you pick?
a) Slightly taller 225/60-15 All-Season tires
b) Noticably shorter 225/50-15 All-Season tires
c) 225/55-15 Summer tires that are the closest to the stock diameter
or
d) The widest out of the bunch 245/50-15 Summer tires which are the 2nd closest to the stock diameter tires.

Also would the 245/50's stick out from the fender too far?

first of all you will be hard pressed to find such an odd size like 225/55/15. Even if you find it you will never be able to get decent deal on them due to low production.
I would go with 225/50/15. There are dirt cheap decent tires in that size, like Kumho 711 or Falken Ziex 512.
Like 60-80 bucks a tire. They are not far off stock diameter either...
I am not sure about that 8 inch rim though. Make sure that it will fit, put it on the car without tire and see if it is too close to spring seats and/or stick out too much. 8 inch is a really nice fat wheel for 15 inches.
I would personally sell those 15x8 wheels for good money to local racers or autocrossers and get cheaper 15x7 rims of Beretta. I have them and they look fricking sweet... I polished the lips and painted centers black.
245 seems very wide and I am sure they will stick out

I tried the wheels out on the car and they clear fine. I found 225/55 tires by Michelin for around $150 a piece but they're summer tires. I think they're OEM for one of the BMWs but everyone gave them crappy ratings in rain. I'll prob go with the 225/50's but I don't like that they mess the speedo up a bit because they're shorter. The 225/60's are closer to stock diameter, but I don't like that they are taller. It's kind of a toss up between those two.
