18 x 8 wheels......225/40 or 235/40?

I'm looking at buying a set of 18" x 8" wheels with a +35 offset. I know this probably isn't the most perfect offset, but it's the only offset that these wheels are made in the 5 x 100 bolt pattern. From my calculations, it looks like the wheel(not including the tire) will stick out 1 inch farther from the car & 1/2" closer to the inside of the fender well than my stock 16" wheel(not including tire).

Should I get 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 tires? I know it's usually recommended to go with 225/40's, but most people have a 7 or 7.5" wide rim. Will the 225/40's give enough protection to the lip of an 8" rim? Are the 235/40's even an option or will they cause rubbing with this width & offset? Also, I will be lowered on Ground Controls set around the height of an Eibach Sportline drop.

Does anyone know for sure that 235/40's would rub? Like 97cavi24ls said, I've heard that they "might" rub. Anyone have experience with them?

I just want to make sure that if I have to get the 225/40's, they will protect an 8-inch wide rim.

Yes they will rub. 225/40 is the best combination IMO for 18" rims.

235/40 is out of the question. it will probably rub, its the wrong tire size and it will throw off your speedo and odometer.

225/40 is the best tire for it, it will keep everything accurate and it will still have plenty of sidewall to protect the rim
