I've been looking at a set of 18" wheels at a local performance shop, and I measured the diameter of the wheel from outer lip to outer lip & they measured 19.5 inches. I also measured from inner lip to inner lip, and I can't remember exactly, but I think it was either 17.5" or 18.5".
Is this a common thing for wheels to have a slightly larger diameter than what they're actually supposed to be? I even asked the shop, and they confirmed that it was an 18" wheel.
its probably just the design of the wheel. from lip to lip the wheel could be taller, but it is just after the lip that the tire mounts on. the mounting surface or surface where the bead of the tires sits is what needs to be 18".
the best thing to do if you dont trust the wheel shop is to find the make and model of the rim and get in contact with the company to see what sizes they made it in.
personally, i have never heard of a 18.5" or 19.5" wheel. the only half inch diameter wheels i know of (on cars, trailors and farm vehicles have them all the time) is 15.5 and 16.5".
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
This particular wheel is only made in 17" and 18". It must be like you said....the surface where the tires are mounted to are 18" in diameter. I just thought it was odd that it was 19.5" from outer lip to outer lip.
my old 17s were 18.5 lip to lip but they were 17s
the rims you purchased may be a reverse ofset style, which is why the front has such a big face. with reverse offset wheels the tire has to be mounted with the face (spokes) of the rim facing down.
i chewed up a nice set of rims and tires once and founf this out the hard way.

your not putting those big wheels on ur stock body NO LOWERED cav are you?
Any wheel that is measured across the face will measure greater than its rated size. The lips have to extend out beyond the inner mounting surface of the tire. If they didn't, the tire wouldn't stay on the rim.
Your measuring the lip the manufacturer measures it at the bead thats the difference.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Chris where are you lookin to get rims at?

Thanks for the info guys. Ken, my car is currently at stock height with the stock kit, but I have a full body kit, spoiler, and Ground Controls w/Koni Reds waiting to be installed along with these 18's. Check my registry. I won't be putting the wheels on until the kit & suspension go on as well.
David, I bought them off eBay from a place in Florida. They just arrived last week.......I got them with tires already mounted & balanced.....not the best tires in the world, but they should be alright.
David, the shop where I was looking at wheels wasn't in Columbus......it was back in Steubenville where my parents live. I ended up going with a different set on eBay.
Ohhh ok, sweet man.. Can't wait to see em..

It's still gonna be at least a few weeks before everything is ready to be installed. So far I'm sticking to my plan to wait for everything to be ready & install it all at once in the same weekend. I'll be posting pics after the install.
