I did some searching and decided that they would be safe. there are many threads saying so. so i did it today and the damn things rub ..BAD! What can i do? take a hammer to the spring perch or go back and get my used tires put back on?
Would wheel spacers help?
Spacers would probably work but that is a complicated fix. I will probably just take the hammer to the spring perch. Does anyone know the offset for ADR Kasai's in 17x7? Maybe mine rub because the offset is too large.
just because one person did it, doesnt mean you should too. do your homework before you do something like this.
do not take a hammer to the pearch, that will just cause more problems.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
If you're talking about the lower spring pearch... I can't see why those would rub... lowering your car doesn't affect where the lower spring pearch sits...
what off set wheels and what struts are you using
if your using kyb , you have to use the struts made for the Z24's , or the spring pirch sits to low
The offset was either +45 or +48. it's been 5 years since i bought them. I have the KYB gr-2's for the Sunfire GT, which i will be replacing soon, so bending the perch a little won't be that big a deal. We are only talking about a quarter inch clearance. also i failed to calculate what the difference in hieght was between 215/45/17 and 225/45/17. Lesson to be learned here is that wheel offset is very important and the FAQ isn't always accurate.
225 45 17s wouldnt fit on my car either so discount tire switched me out for 215 40 17s and they fit nicely and look way better anyways
Yeah--the trouble doesn't lie in your springs, it lies in your dampers.
My 17's gave me no problems whatsoever, but I literally had to pound (sledge hammer) the perches up in the front to get my 18's on. I think the offset was different enough to cause the problem--not the size wheel/tire. Basically, the part of the perch you have to make higher doesn't affect the spring seating or anything like that. Trust me...it's a quick, easy fix to your problem.
Don't use spacers...that's making a mountain out of a mole hill
The only spacers you should use are bolt-on spacers... you can buy them at www.autornd.com but I think the smallest spacers are somehting like 20mm... good for a wide body.

i hope you mean 215/45/17
Do you think this would also be a problem with a +40mm offset 17x7 wheel? Or will extra -5/8mm of backspacing probably solve the problem? If so, atleast it'll help narrow down wheel selection ha.
with a 7" wide wheel you should have no problem running a 40mm offset
I just ordered the prokit/agx and I have 225/45/17's .... why is this small 1.4" drop causing rubbing? It's all because of your offset and not the tires? I don't get it, what exactly is rubbing? Wouldn't going to a 215/45/17 tire just increase wheel well space (which the prokit should leave plenty of with the 225/45/17's).

OK.. I just realized what a brain fart I had. Of course dropping to the 215 series would be a thinner tire and 10mm less wide. I think my rims are 42 offset on 225/45/17. This post has gotten me worried, should I have these same concerns the poster has? Sorry for jacking up the post too, but it got me thinking!

I have the adr kasai rims on my cav and I have 225/45 17s (even though the pic doesn't show the new tires) and there is not problem front or rear there is no rubbing of any kind but I don't know the offset I have that info back home...I am a few thousand miles from home....
I screwed the pooch on this I have the 7.5 wide rims but they don't rub anyways with or without the tires it gets really close to the tube part of the strut.
i has 225/45/17 with no rubbing i think the problem may like with the struts. And the 225/45/17 are much closer to stock diamter than than the 215/45/17. I think one size is a little under and the other is a little over.

i have a 17x8 in front and using 235 45 tire and in rear i have 17x9 and using the same tire im thinking of using 225 40 or something around that are strech the tires. i am using 15 mm bolt on hub centric spacers so i think that our cars can use 17 by 9 1/2 in rear and 9s in front i dont have a wide kit but i do have the toyota fenders. the offset is 31 in front and 38 in rear. i have a 97 z24. i used to have well still have but i took them off was 17x8 advan gen 2 wheels with 37 offset all around on 235 45 no rubbing issues .
thats odd...I run a 45mm offset on my 17x7.5 inch rims with 225/45/17 tires on AGX struts and H&R springs and the only rubbing i ever had was when i accidentally put my rear springs on upside down
