Auto-X wheels and tires
Wednesday, December 27, 2006 4:05 PM
Ok heres the deal...my addiction for AutoX has led me away from the GM S/C and brought me to wheels and tires. Im not well versed on the finer points of wheels and tires so I was wondering what a good combination would be. I currently run in STS and would like to stay there so it is my understanding that I cant go wider than 7.5 or bigger than 225. So I must ask what is your alls opinions on the matter? Any help would be appreciated.

7.5 is a good width, and 225 is a great tire width, you may be able to squeeze 235's on if you roll your fenders.

Kosei K1's are the best bang for your buck as far as rims go.

Tires, in STS there is only one tire I'd ever use and thats the Falken RT-615 around $100.00 a tire. EdgeRacing.com sells them for a good price, you won't find falken on tirerack.

I'd also reccomend taking a spray bottle which can be had at most hardware stores for cheap, I know for a fact that Loews carrys them, during the hot summer days, spraying down the falkens after every run will keep them at the right temperature without overheating.

The current setup for my car is 15x6(stock rums) rims with 205/50R15 RT-615's (which run wide and are more like a 225). Next year I'm gonna try some 16'' or 17'' or light rims if I stay in STS, or move to STX. Otherwise it'll be some 15x7.5'' with victoracers in SM.

I agree on the Kosei K1's + Azenis 615

but stick with a 225, any wider bumps you out of STS up to a higher class

So its my understanding that they dont make K1s in anything bigger than 15"? If this is the case then how do our cars do on 205/50/15 as to my knowledge faulken doesnt make those tires in 225/xx/15 anything? The 15" offer greater acceleration and lighter weight but ive also read that our cars need 225. What about upgrading to 16" tires say a 225/50/16? I believe that im in over my head. Any help would be appreciated as im still learning.

ive never found them to be pricey, they r actually really great priced compared to others if compared similar sizes, i love mine and love the old rt215s also, id buy them again and again if i could, check out www.vulcantire.com for some great prices and fast shipping.

go with the 205/50/15. its the tire for sts. the little bit of extra grip you might get from the 225 will not make up for the loss of gearing by the taller tire. the only reason i would stay with the taller tire is if you run all real high speed courses and need the couple mph's up top of 2nd. plus, they are only 74 + shipping off of edge racing
