i just bought a set of 03 tiburon wheels that are 17x7.. the car is gonna be lowered when i install the rims.it will be lowered about 1.5 inches give or take and i was wondering what the widest tire size is i can run on that car with no problems..i was shooting for 225's

i wouldnt worry about the tire size i would worry about getting the rim to fit. the bolt pattern on that should be 5x114.3

wow..thanks guys for the heads up... im supposed to pick them up this weekend but i guess ill have to back out on the guy..i wondered the same thing too but he assured me that they were 5x100

I just installed a set of 225/50/16's and still have loads of clearance with the stock suspension height. With the wheels turned and locked, I would think the widest may be 245's (another 3/4" wider) with the stock suspension. I think the 225's would hit under compression if I lowered her more than 1.5".
my 226's dont rub on my car and im dropped 1.75 front 1.5 rear. so you'll be fine as long as the offset is correct with the rimmmms your using.
225s are fine hell you could even do a 235 and be fine if you wanted a wider tire but most important thing is to make sure the rim fits before you get worried about tire size
