HUB conversion worth it for GXP rims?
Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:46 AM
So I know it has been dead silence since the start of my project. I blame it on being an Architecture student. But anyways, since I will be graduating soon I will have some free time aside from work to start back up on my project.

But I want to start a running poll here. You guys think it is worth the time and effort to convert my hubs from 5x100 to 5x115 so that I can use the Grand Prix GXP rims? They are the exact rims found on the Sunfire GXP except they are developed by Alcoa since Millie Miglia went of of business and closed its US market. I was just in class thinking about this and was wondering what the consensus of the .org would be. Ofcourse I would have to find out the offset and all before I even think about it, but I would do it to continue my project.

5 x 115 = N-boduy independant rear suspension and NWF body front suspension. I say hells yeah its worth it!

that is exactly what i was going to say... the NWF front and the N- IRS will work, but if you autocross with this car you will now be in a harder category.

let me know if you can find the rims. Alcoa is in collingwood, which is about an hour away from my house and about a half hour away from my school. let me know what i can do to help, in case they have them but "can't ship them to you" cause you live in the states.

Good deal man. I looked over Alcoa's site and found that they are only developing truck wheels for free market sale. So I doubt they will sell an OEM GM wheel to the public unless you are a distributor. I am though going to get in contact with finish line wheels and a few other places I found that have the rims. I would rather getting the discount then paying the GM premium. Its all good. I'll keep you guys posted.

I think it'd be cheaper after all is said and done to just get a nice set of wheels and tires.

True if I could still find a nice set of MM Evo 5s. Then I will get them. I dunno yet, I not in any rush just looking at my options.

You may have some offset problems with the GP GXP rims. The fronts (18x8) have a small offset (not sure exactly, but somwhere around +25mm). The rear (18x7) has a higher offset due to the thick vented rear rotor. If you had four rear rims, that might work.

Thanks for the heads up. Also I found that the Aztek and Vibe had the same rims as an option as well. Both 5x100. wonder the offset of those too. We'll see.

careful w/ the vibe rims because that is a toyota platform (matrix), and while yes the lugs are 5x100, the centerbore is smaller (54.3) vs the jbody 57.1. You'd have to bore out the rims.

Good to know, I will see though because it seems the Vibe version of the rim are as hard to find as the MMs. Also the aztek is 5x115, so either way I would have to deal with a hub conversion for those or the GPs. If anyone can keep an eye out for the MM Evo 5s, or "copy" rims such as the Alcoas let me know.

Haha so far I just can't win on these rims. I found Tire Rack is developing in-house replicas of the Millie Miglia Evo-5 as replacements. Under the name Sport Edition KV5. Great thing is that they are 5x114s. Its great, I can't win. I contacted Tire Rack about finding me a similar style. We'll see, my "GXP conversion" looks like it probably wont be a 1:1 conversion.

looky what I found.

Sport Edition KV5

Tire Rack offers the MM Evo-5 replica replacements in a 5x100 pattern with a +35 offset. They said they are lighter and actually stronger than the original Millie Miglia design, which most people whom owned the rim complained about cracking/bending them easily. So tire rack developed a cheaper and supposedly better replacement. Funny I didn't find them under the Sunfire but the Audi TT. Which by the way shares the same BP and Bore as the the J-body. The only difference is the lug. So I am wondering if these rims are universal and will work, +35 is fine with me since now I can also do the big brake upgrade as well with no problems. Let me know what you guys think.

All I need to do now is get up the money for the rims, lower and brakes.

those things are 18x8" wide. that may be a bit of a tight fit, even with the +35 mm offset. those are pretty nice though. i like them. that would save you from doing the bolt pattern swap to the N-body.

Aztek is not 5x100.

i never could understand why they never made a GXP and maybe an SS version of the cav and sunfire with something like the 3400 V6. we all know the engine can fit, i just dont see why they didnt make a REAL sports version of our cars so my insurence company would @!#$ off with thinking my z24 is a high speed racing machine.
