Different tire size help
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 3:37 PM
I got a set of 17 inch rims with 215/45/17 tires on them... 2 have to be replaced... I wanted to get 225/45/17 (more correct specs for the stock 16") should I put the 225 on the back and 215 on the front or vica versa????

or if I should get 215's... (I don't want to because I want to get 225 when the good 215's run down)

any opinions plz

thanks guys!!!!!

put the 225's on the front thats where your power goes down and where you need the most traction. I always advocate replacing all 4 at once and properly rotating tires at every other oil change, but if thats not within your budget then upgrade to the 225's at a minimum, just ralize your going to have more grip in the front so if you do any really aggressive driving your going to be more likely to oversteer due to the traction differential between the front and the rear, but this can also be effected by the type of compound in the tire so if your rears are really grippy and the fronts are it may not make any difference at all.

That 225 is going to be a little taller than the 215's as well, not sure if the 215 is the proper size in a 45 series tire or if the 225 is, but it will have an effect on your speedo.

You may throw a code on the ABS by having the two different sizes. It might just be within tollerance, but whenever the wheels consistently turn at a different rate, the ABS module starts freaking out.

give the man a cookie!

that is exactly what i was going to say.

the 225/45R17 and the 215/45R17 are both pretty damn close to spec, with the 225s being slightly closer. personally, i would just match up with the 215/45's that you already have. this will save you from even having to worry about the ABS computer.
