Hey Everyone,
I have a 2001 Sunfire base model with 14 inch wheels (with covers). I am thinking about geting a set of 16 inch z24 rims. Just wondering if all j's have the same ride height and wheel gap -as I do not want the 16" rims to make the wheel gap look any bigger. I swear the GT's/Z24s look like they have less gap then the others, do they have a different set up? Also, if anyone has pics of 16 inch wheels on a sunfire that would be helpful.
Thanks for your help.
As shown in the tire size FAQs that are stickied at the top of this forum section, the overall diameter of a stock 14" tire and and stock 16" tire are nearly identical. The gap would not be affected significantly by the switch.

But do all J-bodies ride at the same height? Ie. same springs?
I'm going to say yes they do, but anyone can chime in if they know different. I've seen some variation in ride hight, but I've always dismissed it as different states of wear and sagging in the suspension, or an impression caused by differences in the body effects (Z24 lips and skirts, etc.)

Ride height is all the same. The Z24/GT suspension is supposedly slightly stiffer, via spring rates, etc. Would I advise using stock Z24 springs as an "upgrade"? Hell no.

if you are using stock Z wheels the gap will be the same as long as you use 205/55-16 tires. 225/50-16 are also very, very close in size if you want something wider.

The Z's use a 205 diameter tire as the othr cars use a 195 diameter. so the gap is actually different between the two. just not much. but it IS noticeable.

do you have any idea on what the numbers on the tires mean? 205 and 195 are not the diameter. they are the width of the tire in mm.
Right, and the middle number is the percentage of the width which gives you your side wall height. Then you must add in rim diameter to get the over all tire height.

205/55R16 is what the Z wheels use, as stated above anyway.
The 14" wheels use a 195/70R14 I believe, and the 15's use a 195/65R15.
They are all going to be very close to the same height, I'm sure they didn't calibrate the speedos for different wheel sizes, they probably calibrated them all close to the same and used tires that are all the same height... would make more sense to me anyway.

I have a 91 sunbird, and i threw a set of 96 z24 wheels on my car and it doesnt realy show a difference besides filling up the wheel well more
