Has anyone had to do this? If so how did it turn out?
Anyway I got 4 17" rota's dirt cheap and when I went to mount them the hub on my car was too big, so I can grind those down easily, but then I noticed I cant use a centercap without cutting my cv shaft a little shorter.. Now I am on the fence if I want to do this or just sell these wheels?
any suggestions
if you're curious the wheels are Bronze torques for 350$(2 had new snow tires)

Same problem on my bbs'....
I am cutting them down sometime in the next week... In my case I only need to trim a bit off, and there is a LOT of extra, so no reason why i can't....
I'm sure all of that extra on the CV shaft is there for a reason, probably for strength.. I would not cut it or grind it down.

you can cut it down without a problem, the older 3rd gens didn't have the nub. Easiest way to do to it is to pick up a die (as in tap and die set) thast the center nut off, there is a washer under the nut, take the nut from both sides put them one one side thread on the die and then with the wheel off have at it with a hacksaw and WD-40, once your done when you remove the die its fixes the threads on its way off, then do it the same way on the other side. It only takes liek 10-15 minuets per side, don't grind it os use power tools and keep it lubed, this way you keep the heat to a minimum.
I had to do it with my Rota Boost wheels.
yeah. the extra thread there doesnt do a thing. im not sure i know why its there. i know it helped me get the axle all the way in the hub when i was putting new axles in. but thats it.
one of my friends with a older cav(89) has the same issue, he bought rims off a celica and they look good, tires a little small, but on the front he has to use a small spacer to give the clearance for the c-cap. same issue with a newer maxima, he spent big bucks on a set of replacement 20's when he bent the crap out of one of his other rims on a pot hole, and the entire shaft and nut are sticking out, I think he may have to have someone make him a set of c-caps that will actually fit over the entire thing, really sucks!
really hot looking rims though, bigger on the back for the look, dropped to the floor too, looks hot.
ive got the same problem with my Konig Britelites. i just left the centercap off, its a really small one and it looks fine with it off, doesnt look like it missing anything.

my 95 had that issue, but only on the rear 2 wheels. my 99 has no problems with the center caps at all though.
Check out my build thread!
