just curious to see what the biggest wheels people have installed or actually seen installed on a cav or sunfire?
22's and 20's. There is one person with 22's who is a member here and theres a few members on here on 20s, me included.
There is a guy here with 22's in the rear and 20's in the front. No the 22s were not just slapped on, there was a lot of work involved.
lol ya 22' is a bog boy rim...on a sunfire
that is Bagdfire(sp?)
and there was ALOT of work that went into trying to fit 22's on the rear
not just a drop in

True, but I think most of that work can be avoided now. They make 22's 22X7.5 now. They ain't cheap by any means though. Also, you will more than likely have trim about 1/2 an inch of the metal sheet metal behind your inner wheel liners, and toss them away for turning clearance.
that doesnt matter, its still wayyy too big. theres a few people running 18x8.5 wheels on here and jeff has 22x8.5 in the rear and in order to make it work, he had to tub the rear and shorten the axle. the fronts would require some major fender mods to even work.
Is there any way I could get a high res of that first pic you posted James? That just looks badass and I must have a desktop if it.
I'll pm you too just incase.

he made the rear axle longer not shortened it. im sure you just typed wrong just wanted to correct so it didnt confuse people
just to clear up some info on my car. I shortened the rear axle 3.5 inches (width wise) and then extended the trailing arm back further 1 1/8 inches. The wheels we originally put on the car were 22x8.5 but since then I have put on a 22x7.5 rim. The actual width of the wheel isn't the problem on our cars but instead its the diameter due to the rear being a swing arm causing the wheel to move too far forward when laid out (thus the reason to bring the whole arm back further which caused the need to trim 2 inches from the rear of the wheel well on the bumper) I would think if one would take the irs set up and a 22x7.5 rim on a 235/30/22 tire, it would be a close fit but could probably work. The front however, would need an elaborate cantilever set up creating negative camber when laid out allowing the wheel to clear the fender. I have a lot of pics of what we had to do to make the rear work, and I can post some of them up if anyone wants to see.

forget this we were both right striped
i like 20s on our cars...james inspired me to do it actually..i hated it at first..but it grew on me.
Quiklilcav wrote:Even 20's are hard to pull off right on our cars. Bagdfire tubbed and narrowed to be able to still lay it out. I'm not sure if a 22x7.5 with a rubber band on it would work without mods on a mild drop, but I would bet it looks silly.
I've also seen a donked cav with 22's on it that just looked foolish IMO.
Donks look retarded, and really, why waste money lifting a car to fit huge rims, when you could buy an SUV and just bolt them on? Cars are ment to be lowwered, trucks are ment to be lifted.
Caution: I have an odd sense of humor, so don't be offended by the things I say
MMMM, HIDs
cutting the rear axle down
pieced back together with 3.5 inches cut out the middle
welded in crossmember and swing arm bolted back in with new mounting tabs
cut out for wheel tub with stablizer bar welded inside trunk
wheel tub welded in
with lower bag mount in
bag mounted in place
another bag shot
Nissan pickup shocks added
dropped on 22s
I'm not really a fan of obscenely huge rims, but I agree a set of 20's look good on a slammed cav, I've seen a donked cav also and it made the whole car look like garbage, me personally 18"s are the biggest I'm going on mine, but it's not about me.
I just don't get how these guys take beautiful Regals, Caprices, Impalas, and Oldsmobiles, (that have a great potential to be a bad ass muscle car) and just throw some 30" rims on them and lift them up, lol, I guess some people don't see cars the way I do, but I did see a 70' Chevelle SS 454 on 26" rims and it made me sick to my stomach, it was also candy pink eew gross.
18's are what i'm going with, the biggest i'd ever go would be 20's but it's not likely to ever happen

Personally, I like 18's as well, and would like to find a set that I could afford that would go well with my car...but I can't see that happening for a while. So, I'll stick with the 16's for a bit longer...they're still better than the 15" hubcaps I started with.
The cars on here that people have done the 20's and 22's with, though, are done well, and deserve to be respected, as do their owners for taking the time to do it right. Thanks for the pics to show how it should be done.
