Wheel Bore Size Questions??
Saturday, March 15, 2008 6:56 AM
Ok. i know i may get flamed for this. but you cant learn if you dont ask. I want to buy a set of Subaru WRX wheels off of one of my buddies from College. The bore size for out cars is 57.1mm and The WRX wheels is 56.1mm. Now. could i bore out the WRX wheel with a rasp to fit my hub size since its only 1mm. and i can center the wheels with the lugs i beleive. they have tapered lugnuts for them. so will this work or do i absolutley have to have them machined. im getting a really good deal on these rims and would like to save myself as much as possible if i can. ive read on other forums that this is completely fine as lont as the lug nuts that u use are tapered. thanks alot.

Depending on the condition of the existing bore, there may be a possibility that you could bolt them to your hubs w/ no problems.

Also, depending on offset and wheel width you may run into issues with rubbing.

My .02, try before you buy.

This needs to be an exact fit. Taking a dremel w/ a grinding stone to it will not be exact.

I did not say it won't work.

people usually have them bored out do to the fact they need to be centered and perfect. going at it just to make it wider will work, however you wont be able to use hub rings at all because i highly doubt you will get it perfect so without the hub rings you make experience so vibrations at high speeds.

heres the thing tho. bothe the lugnuts and the lugnut holes are tapered. so i should be able to center them that way. plus i just bought them.. and the offset will work to. if i need to i will get a few mm spacer to make up for it.

you can center them on the lugs thats fine, you just need to make sure the bore is bigger than 57.1mm. i cant say you wont have any vibrations at high speeds or sheard lugs

itl be ok. i already bored them out. and am working on painting the last 2 right now. looking at the back of the wheel told me that its a 16x6.5 and has a 55 mm offset. but yet. they fit just like the wheels i have now. so i dont know what the deal is. other than that. they honestly look great. we will see what happens here tomorrow with the vibrations. if it vibrates ill have them profesionaly bored out and then rebalance. and everything should be ok.

Well. i got them done!!!. they look amazing. and. i took them on the highway at 80 and no vibrations whatsoever. also. i looked on the back of the wheel and they say 55 mm offset and 16x6.5 wheel. ill get piks tomorrow after i detail the car. i DO need to get like .5" wheel spacers to make up for the difference. but i might now. i might just stick with what i have.

I had mine bored at a machine shop. I'm not going to risk losing control at 125+mph all for trying to save $100.

Just my $0.02

Now now, you shouldn't be going that fast

no, your car won't go that fast stock...108 is it... Even at 85, and something is wrong with your wheel and you hit a pot-hole or swerve quickly to miss an animal, lugs will start breaking...

I plan to go that fast on a race track, not public roads.
