Can anyone help a newb figure out the best way to paint the disk brakes? Which paint is best to use?

I may be in the wrong thread, but I figured it was part of the wheel.

Most people just spray the entire Rotor with a High Heat paint

Once you use the brakes a few times the paint on the contact surfaces burns off

I sprayed my rotors with high heat paint and its lasted a long time

Drums same thing

I used the brush on kit. I used the high heat caliper spray once and then the 2nd time around tried the brush on kit. I prefer the brush on kit over the spray on hands down. Hell it even lasted longer than the spray on.

Duplicolor makes a nice brush on.

in 4 popular colors, like $24 for whole kit.

I've had success using high heat engine paint before, but the key is to prep the surface properly. It requires plenty of scrubbing to make sure all the road grime is removed. Even if a caliper or rotor looks clean, lots of times it's still got a film on it that will not let the paint properly adhere to it.

For the rotors, I don't recommend wearing off the paint from the friction surface. Either tape it off, or use a scotch-brite pad to remove it afterward.

I used Rust-o-leum enamel. Its staying on just fine. About a year and a half now. Only cost me 5 bucks for a pint and some brushes.

I always sand everything down really well and spray it with brake cleaner before painting with a high heat paint or brake caliper paint.

ive talked to my dad about this[hes a mechanic] and he has said that the reason people say the paint doesnt work is because they arent properly preparin the surface. to do it correctly, you need to sandblast it. then do the normal cleaning. then get heat engine paint instead of caliper paint, will stay and last longer.
