How to tell which wheel is out of balance?
Friday, February 05, 2010 8:53 PM
I started getting a slight vibration through the steering wheel when I was using the 17s and I figured it was something in the driveline. I changed the wheels for winter and voila vibration is gone. So obviously it was one of the front wheels but all 4 wheels and tires are chilling in my basement.

The local tire place charges by the wheel so I would like to just take in the one that needs balanced as opposed to paying for all 4.

Anyone have any handy tricks for me?

have them balance the fronts because you wont feel your wheel vibration (if its not god awful bad) in the rear tires. balance on rims tho isnt just for a smooth ride its for even tire wear as well...

do both fronts. its really hard to tell which one will be out, especially with the wheel off the car, and theres a good chance both will be out anyway. me personally though, i would have all 4 done.

do both fronts and if you got the $$ discount tire has a lifetime rotation/balance/flat repair service you can buy. so youll never have to worry about paying when your gettin vibration but most likely the tape weights fell off. on aftermaRKET WHEELs your gonna need a rebalance almost every season. and even if they balance perfect if you put them back on the machine they will still be off. thats just how it goes.

I guess Ill just get the fronts balanced. I think I know which two they are because of the tire wear. I just rotated the tires before the vibration started.
