Okay if different size tires on?
Tuesday, December 17, 2013 7:29 PM
So the stock steelies I have is 195/70/14 and I'm soon purchasing a set of wheels/tires that's 225/45/16, and is it okay to run a bit larger diameter wheel? I heard that it can throw the speedometer off? I'm still getting these regardless because it's such a good deal, $100 for all 4 rims with 90% tires.

I believe the 16in with those tires are actually about 1in inch bigger overall compared to 14s. Could be wrong depends on the tire manufacturer. You should see no real change in the speedometer. Maybe 1-2mph hard to tell without doing calculations.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

This will tell you how they fit and what your speedo error will be @ 60MPH

Enter everything in the little box on the right.

i went from steelies to 17 inch rims with 225/50's and at the lower speeds i couldn't really tell a difference. At 60 and above though i was about 3-4 mph off according to my gps.

Simple answer here...many people run 225/50/16's on their cars, and they have no issues.
The 225/45/16 is actually a little shorter than the 195/70/14, not taller.

If you're buying the tires, get the 225/50 or 205/55 (stock size for a 16" rim)
205/55's should be easy to come by, and fairly cheap.

Here it is guys. Couldn't pass them up, $100 for them with 90% thread. Only downside is it's covered in plastidip that's pretty messed up.

I knew something didn't look right so I had to check the size and it was 17's...which is what I wanted in the first place so I'm happy! And nope, they're all balanced and none bent, only bad thing is the chrome lip is pretty pitted and the orginal paint has some rash on it, but right now I'm cleaning them up and prepping them for a nice heavy coat of plastidip, along with clear coating to make them easy to clean. Reason I got these for so cheap is that the guy who sold me these, he worked on a car for a dude and the dude swapped his wheels for another set and never came back to pick these up. So I got them, here's another photo...they're not on the car yet, just a mock up, going to put them on in the spring.
