I changed the bulbs to apc hyperwhite (194)
painted the underside of the needles Red and it gives this !
btw the needles still show white when not lit up
canadian eh? Looks good man.
@!#$ the temp and speedo needles stop working
what could be the problem ? could they just be pushed too far ?
Cant answer ur question but now i dont need to post this. How many bulbs were there and how did u change them did u have to take apart the cluster or unbolt it and go from the back I just just changed my HVAC lights to red L.E.Ds and i wanna do the cluster just afraid to touch it THANKS.
Cluster is cake...pull out the cluster, and its just a buncha lights you screw into the back of it...at least it is on 2nd gens...
im thining 3rd gens you have to take the needles, overlay, and a bunch of other crap off....but ya...i p[lan on doing mine soon, howevever id like to know if i have to worry about my gauges not working....
SUNSTEALTH need ur help please dont feel like taking apart my dash to see its COLD
well i took the dash appart (just remove the top dash pad)
unbolt the cluster go it your house
now you see 4 green socket, remove them, the lights are in there, now change or paint the lights to your liking!!
pretty easy its an hour job if you count the time to desolder the lights from their sockets
the back side where it face the cluster
looks good man...ive been debating if i should change mine to blue or not...i have 7 extra sockets (the green part) for the cluster, i might sauder some new blue led's one day...just taking my dash out is a pita since it's all molded as one.
its a lot brighter now and no they are not special bulbs, just 194 bulbs soldered to the metal pegs on the green sockets
well they are blue like all the hyper white bulb ive ever seen
Actually, that is pretty sweet. I bet it looks better than the pics do justice. Good job.

I used humbrol model paint for the needles
and i think i removed the bulbs from their socket by cutting the wires!
its the same bulb that the corners
and it looked better, unfortunately when i was fixing my speedometer needle I sneezed and broke the needle, had to get a new cluster so now i have a completely stock cluster wich lit up blu with white needles!
lol smashing things solve problems
I have a 98 Cavalier Z24. Is there a filter or film of some sort that would distort the color of the light coming through.
I was thinking of replacing the 194 cluster bulbs with blue superbright leds and wondering whether the outcome would be good looking or not.
