I want to paint my interior but im scared.lol......Well I was going to do my interior in vinyl and then I decided to go back to stock, well I am happy with the gray/red interior of my cavalier but I would like to do custom door pannels with different speakers, and maybe some custom monitors, well I want to know if I go all out and spend money and have a shop paint the plastic, does it chip or scratch just as easy as a spray can? cuz if i am doing it. I want it to last really long...............

Thanks

I'm going to be repainting my interior with an HVLP soon, but I need to comment on this.

My interior was painted a year and a half ago, using Rustoleum automotive primer, Krylon Fusion, and Krylon triple clear. I've since dropped pieces on cement, bumped them with hockey equipment/guitars/turbo parts/whatever else I carried in my car, and they've withstood the abuse. The only damage my interior received was during installation of my rear buckets, when a corner of the seat bracket caught the door panel and scratched right through the paint, as well as some of the plastic.

Long story short: if you do it right, it will last. Period. If you do it right, it will look good. Period. If you half-ass it, it doesn't matter if you're using a spray-can or an HVLP gun - it's going to look like crap.

thanks for the reply guys, I am deff. going to be using a hvlp gun just for the fact that I want to do a custom color on the interior. I dont like the krylon Fusion colors. so that was never an option. I have painted my interior with the auto spray paint befor and it was ok, but not to strong,

when the paint doesnt adhere well allot of times its do to not cleaning the piece good enough. any oils and greese or spray cleaners that is still on the plastic will keep the paint from sticking.

I wiped all my interior peices down with rubbing alcohol and allowed them to air dry. I think there is a particular thing you can use for it though.
