Hey there, i hope someone can help me out there!. I wanna change my cluster in my 98 cavy, but the new cluster i got i didnt come with papers on how to install it. I know how to get it in but i dont know the best way to hook up the wires comming from the new guage. Its a REVERSE GAUGE and it looks bitchen!! If someone could help me that would be sweet, or ever if someone knows i site that has the install's on it that would be wicked too!! Thanx
TheModFather.
Are you changing the gauge face only, or the whole cluster? I can help with the face, but installing a new cluster should be a simple matter of unplugging the old one and plugging in the new.
MIne is an 03 but the priciple should be the same.
Wish I hadn't used Raptor's last post!

Got an email? Or use msn at all??
well, let's do it here so others can correct me if I'm wrong. I assume that you know how to remove the dash assemby to get the original gauges out?
If not, I can't help.
But once you have access to the gauges, it's a simple matter of turning all of your needles to the same angle (you will have to experiment, I used a 45 degree angle) and slide the new gauge over them. I recommend putting some double-stick tape here and there to make sure they stay put, although some choose to let them lay without adhesive.
Next, you will have to run power to the gauge. On the 03 Cavaliers, this is done by splicing into a brown wire that runs out from the turn signal lever. You will find it by removing the steering wheel trim (should be 3 screws on the bottom - muach easier if you tilt the wheel all the way down).
After that, it's a simple matter of stuffing everything under the dash or steering column so that no wires are visible.
Thisis kind of a rough description, I will attempt to answer specific questions to the best of my knowledge. Hopefully others will join in to fill in my gaps. For all I know, yours is totally different from mine.

Thanx steve that sounds about right! Only thing tho, is that i have 2 wires comming off of my guage face! What one do i hook up to the brown wire and what do i do with the other one? Im trying to get some web space so i can post a pic and then u can see what i mean. Thanx anyways!
TheModFather
My guess would be that the other one is your ground. Attach it to a screw or something that is connected to the metal frame.
Does this thing come with any controls to adjust the brightness, etc?
http://www.bluecavcustoms.com
Nope, im guessing that it just stays one brightness. All that u see in the pics is all i got! I was wondering, what could i screw up if i do this wrong?....like if the brown wire is the wrong one, cuz my car is the 98 z24?!?! not an 03.
I think the only thing that would happen is that the gauge would not light.
I am not certified, however - better ask some more. Also, I have no way to tell from the pic which is your power lead and which is your ground. Again, better ask.

those arent gonna work with out the power inverter(little balck box), you will get to much juice to the gauges and fry them. if you got one then ignore my post. and on the 95-99 gauge clusters you can take the needles off with out having a problem, just MAKE SURE you remember were the needles were before you took them off. you can use a fork, thats what i used on mine to get the needles off.

So the guage i have is more or less useless, cuz it has 2 wires comeing from it but no little black box!......Damn thats kinda sucks.
yup you definatly need it, sorry. if its any consolation they have them pretty cheap on ebay most of the time. i got mine from procarparts.com, they have them kinda cheap there too. i paid way to much for mine though!! but no one in my area has them so it was kinda worth it!

Whats a good price for them??....keep in mine that im in canada!
wel mine were like 70 US shipped.
here is a set on ebay that look pretty close to yours < just click it. you might have to email the seller to find out if the shipping price is different than what he has in the listing because you live in canada
if you have any more questions email me that way the mods dont get mad for something we could discuss in email or if you have aol instant messenger.

I didnt buy it i got it off of a cany that was all done up i found in a junk yard! I was there today and i was looking around inside for the power inverter but i wasnt really sure was i was looking for! I tryed looking for any wires that they might have been hook up to b4 but i didnt see anything.
So tomorrow im goin to a friends place and where going to try and see if we can just "rig" it, i guess the only thing that might happen is if i fry the guage and it becomes garbage, (not like i payed anything for it) If that happens tho i think i'll just get a new one!!
TheModFather.
Damn I wish I had the inverter from my old gauges...
I'll see if its in the garage somewhere...
http://www.bluecavcustoms.com
OK well, i'v tryed it and it dosent work so i just gave up on it and just paint some parts insted. We figgerd out it was the face guage that was broke, so now m just goin to save some money and buy a new one!
Thanx to everyone who helped me out!!
