i have an 02 manual and the removal was very easy, and i have a universal boot on mine from jc whitney, had to cut a little off the bottom, but it was fairly easy

the stock boot will come off quite easily, theres little tabs that hold it in place, just kinda squeez it towards the shifter and it should just pop right out, mine did.

its just glued on, Pull on it, or you could heat it up with a hair dryer to loosen the glue.
