i dont know from experience, but from what i've read, there are no durability issues. and i dont believe it will flake or anything, because it isnt a layer like paint is, but a dye that saturates the actual vinyl, so it soaks in and takes that color.

i guess kinda like how they dye fabrics before they become an actual item

It's a dye - no offense, but think about that for just a moment, please. When someone dyes his hair, does the color just flake out?

Prep the vinyl properly. Give the dye time to DRY (24+ hours). Then test its durability. I've had people's shoes on my dash and it proved to show no signs of any wear whatsoever.

I dyed my dash with a vinyl paint and it turned out really well, no problems with chipping or flaking what so ever, the paint was expensive though ($17 CDN)

What kind of situations do you put your car in where someone will be scraping it with nails?

I have dyed two of my dashes with duplicolor vynal and fabric dye and neither has ever chipped. The first one i dyed was charcoal and i dyed it white, the second from tan to black.
