i wired mine to the interior light dimmer switch. i spliced the black wire into the black wire coming off the switch, and the red one into the yellow wire i believe (there's like 4 wires going to the switch. use a volt meter and check to see which one has 12v when parking lights are on, but none when they're off). works perfect and comes on whenever i turn the parking lights on

The right way is to splice it into the harness going from the dimmer to the gauge cluster. I don't remember the color of the positive wire, but the negative is of course black. It's pretty simple if you just follow the wires back from the dimmer. Use a volt meter or a light bulb with a wire on it to test it, and make sure that the dimmer functions on it. If you tap off the wrong side, you will get a constant power feed.

i have mine getting power from the dimmer too all you have to do is wire negative to negative and positive to positive
