I saw a carbon fiber cav dash on ebay a few months ago. it wasnt a sticker kit or dash cover it was a complete top piece of the dash. any one knw where i can get this?
you can probably talk to ben from tabasco racing. he does a LOT of work with carbon fiber. most of the ones i have seen though have been made by the owner of the car so if you're brave enough you can always attempt it yourself.

i had a c/f dash on ebay a month or so ago. it was real c/f wrapped on a stock dash. i am also working on two more dashes now (but they are for .org people and wont be on ebay) . if you want to order one, email tabasco_ant@hotmail.com and we can work it out. but just to let you know...they arent cheap. they arent expensive either...but ive had more than a few emails from people who are expecting to get one for $100 or less and let me tell you, thats just not gonna happen
here are some pics. i took these pics in february on a cloudy day. usually the c/f sparkles much better when in the sunlight.

Wow, I'd love to snag one of those. How much are they running for? I'm sure it's a pretty penny...

not that much. youre looking at around 300 shipped. IMO thats not a bad price. the few real c/f dashes ive seen for imports run from 500-800. granted those were for full replacements...but they use the same amount of carbon so the cost per item should be about the same. anyway....email or IM me if you want one. just realize that turnaround time isnt that fast....

300 SHIPPED for that large of a piece and that quality of work is a great price. It's too bad the J community typically leans too far the way of not spending anything to realize that...

thanks raptor...nice words and very true. but as ive said a million times, i do carbon as a hobby not as a business item. and even if it were a business item, my whole idea is that in order to promote and further the J scene, we all need to chip in and help each other. as a business member that means good products at good prices. as a regular member, it means helping other J owners by supplying your skills where needed and not raping the other people cant do what you can. thats what i have set out to do in both my business and hobby.
damm that sounds like a cheezy commercial for walmart or some sort of insurance agency......ehh oh well.....lol

I would just like to say that I am one of those people fom the org who is getting a dash done. When I heard the price I was about the crap myself. I think the price is redicolosly cheap. Like ben mentioned. For other cars were they mass produce these dash it is even more expensive then what he is doing them from. I would recomend everyone to go to ben if they needed anything carbon fiber. Keep up the good work Ben. I'll post manby pictures of the pieces im getting cf when I get them.
Tabasco, judging from those pics you are just getting better and better at wrapping C/F. It looks better than most aftermarket C/F peices you see. Most have so many air bubbles in it there almost like a pattern as the weave itself.
Expect an email from me about some questions in wrapping that stuff soon.

titus: well so much for keeping your stuff a secret
zach: thanks. the reason alot of mass produced pieces have bubbles in them is because they are produced from a mold and if not done properly, air bubbles can form because the carbon wasnt pressed down enough, shifting during curing, etc. with hand wrapping there is less chance of that, but at the same time it allows for human errors. so they both have pros and cons.

hey ben can you do a dash top in the black and blue ???
97cavie: yeah i can do the carbon/kevlar composite in black and blue. but two things....first the kevlar is more expensive and harder to do. itll be $75 more than regular carbon. second is the blue will be a darker blue than what the pictures show of the dry material. imagine if you had a blue shirt and it got wet. it will have a "wet" look for the kevlar. ive got pics of what i mean with the orange carbon/kevlar if you need to see it
evil monkey: send me a pic and maybe some measurements and ill see what i can do.
cavette: you send in your stock dash (or an extra one) and i will wrap it. the only time i mess with cores are when i have ebay auctions. then they are just plain carbon wraps, not custom jobs like on a custom dash. but email me a pic and ill check it out.
evol: carbon pricing depends on too many variables. thats like asking how many miles a car gets per gallon. is it an suv, car, truck, etc? what size engine, etc? carbon varies by weight, weave, and many other things. personally, i find carbon to be easy but i cant fiberglass very well at all. but my friend frank is a wiz with fiberglass (he is doing all the glass work for my car) but he cant work with carbon composites nearly as well as i can. again, it just depends on you. want to try it out? go for it....i think doing my own projects is much more satisfying than buying them. you may have success with it or you may not be able to at all.

do you know what the graphite/blue dot interior looks like ??
its the reason i was thinking of the blue/black look
i can post a pic of it tommorow if you havent seen it
i think ive seen a pic once before, but im not familiar enough with it. but since youre premo, ill attach some pics of the dry orange kevlar and the wet kevlar for comparisons. expect the blue to act the same way once the resin is applied....
pic is of dry orange kevlar composite on armrest

pic of the same armrest after resin has been applied. pic shows a black carbon armrest for comparison. and you can also see how the flash works and makes it different colors. the shift bezel is also the same color as the armrest, but looks almost maroon in that pic.

and finally, a pic of the armrest installed. originally the material was supposed to match my friends seats (and in the pics, the dry weave looked like it was going to come close) but in reality it was nowhere close. granted, my friends seats are a tad on the bright side, you can still see the difference from beginning to end of the armrest
