Monday, April 18, 2005 5:40 PM
This is to show the progression of my interior over the corse of it being complete. I Used to be Jesse Ours now Superman. This is a work in progress. So this is be no means complete.

Stripped an Fat Mat was layed out...

Fiberglassed dash(top)

Sanded Dash (bottom)

Custom Dash Bezel?

Fiberglassed headliner

Sanded Door pannel

Other sanded Pieces

New BLACK carpet...

I ordered Diamond plate floor mats, I will be getting black leather racing seats, redoing the rear seat in black leather to match fronts. Doing a custom trunk set up soon also

Will post pics when I do anything else, I work on it every day so expect updates daily

Thanks

I so have to fiberglass the rear deck still but dont know what size speakers to put in so thats on hold, as well as the door pannels because they are getn speakers fiberglassed in as well. sorry for the long post. thanks

damn man, looks awesome. im in the same process at the moment. got a question for ya, when you did your door panels, and the like, how did you sand it. did you add resin or filler before sanding, or is it just sanding the plastic? cuz sanding my plastic is taking forever by hand.

Eazy: I used 60 grit sand paper it was green, And a palm sander. The door pannel took about 15 minutes to take off the texture, I still have to sand it all smooth.

z24challenge: I used both a palm sander and my hands and a sanding block, I just sanded, and sanded, and sanded. It does take long one some pieces thats why im dreading the rear pieces.

The dash bezel? will also have 5 switches under the DVD player and a BOOST PSI gauge where the vent was.

Well see I am really talkn about the dash. I drilled alot of holes on the dash(top) When I lay the mat with resin I cant get the edges to stay down. it frays up sorta

Re: Project: Interior

make sure u take the fiberglass well past the edge, that way u can lay up allot of resin on the backside to hold it down, if u stop the fiberglass right at the edge it will be to stiff to stay down.

heres an example. pick up a piece of sheet paper and hold it right at the middle. notice it will fall and fold in half basically where your hand is, now hold the piece of paper about an inch from the end. notice that 1 " end doesnt fold over.

LOOKS GOOD MAN! a man after my own fiberglassin heart. LOL I started my dash it's 3/4 finished.. and i just stopped it. LOL the dash out of my 2.2 was a lil messed up and broken. Mostly the retainer screw hole ont eh drivers side that keeps that end down. Sterio install place broke it way back, when i first got it. I got my new Z24 and decided to stray away from a glass dash, and do a black leather one instead But I've glassed my doors & speakers into them, currently working on my Gauge/sterio dash peice.. glassed a Nitrous power Switch panel into it for all of my nitrous goodys, It's 3/4 complete.
Link to that post But fiberglass is fun, and you can get so creative with it and make things what you want to make them. That interior's looking good! Just keep with it and don't stop 3/4 way finished like I did. I got tired of sanding and primering and painting. LOL but now im back at it! Can't wait to see pics of it finished! Btw.. has anyone attempted to do leather work on their dash themselves? if so got any pointers?

Troll: thanks for the good comments, Ill post updates as soon as I can do any work. I do believe that some ppl have rewrapped there dash in vinyl, So Im guessing it would be the same. Cant think of any off hand. I know its gonna be fun, I just want it done!

Good luck with the project, looks like it's coming along quite nicely. My only question is, How much of that crap under there could possibly be removed (if any) without sacrificing the safety of the car? I'm interested for weight reduction purposes. I have a 2.2 and I need all the help I can get when it comes to speeding it up a bit.
Re: Project: Interior

looks good....except you have ALOT of sanding to do...especially on that dash top...what you should have done to minimize sanding is sanded it shortly after it dried...while it was still a little soft... that tends to help...and also... did you take the vinyl off of your door panels and dash top? or did you just sand the vinyl thats on the top half of the door panels and fiberglass right over the vinyl...cause if you didnt remove the vinyl you will most likely run into some problems...

Thanks guys for the nice comments....Means alot

96z24colorado: I deff. took all the vinyl off befor I fiberglassed. IT was a real Bitch. I have a 2000 so my door pannels are all plastic so I didnt have to worry about that. just the dash.

Hopefully will be able to do some sanding tomorrow. Maybe fiberglass my 5.6" tv screens into the rear covers. Who knows.

think with vinyl or leather is to not cheap out on the material. the cheap stuff wont stretch at all. decent stuff will stretch two ways, quality material will stretch in all 4 directions, this will make it allot easier to stretch the material where u need to. only othere suggestion is to find some good strong glue.

teh caps are for all the Blind people in the back row.. So's they can see too ! haha It's gonna turn out really nice. I've been debating on removing my interior in my Z b4 it's running again for this very reason. well to sand & Paint mostly nothing more. maybe a lil glass work. LOL Not huge amounts of it.
