quick acetone question
Monday, April 18, 2005 6:41 PM
i just recently had my first attempt at fiberglassing (just a piece of cardboard to practice) and i went to pour some acetone in a plastic cup to dip the brush in, and before i knew it, the acetone had completely eaten through the plastic and proceeded to go all over the place. So i was just wondering what you guys all use to hold the acetone in, thanks

yep get a glass container, or line the plastic with some aluminum foil.

Some plastics are funny with chemicals. Years ago when I was just a little troublemaker, I used to build models. I had found this new paint that seemed pretty cool, had some different colors, and I wanted to try it.
I put it in a plastic cup and started to stir it before pouring it into my airbrush. A few seconds into stirring, and the bottom dropped right off, spilling the paint all over the bench. I was pissed at the time, but it's funny now.

Hmm...kinda off topic. I was thinking about using Acetone to clean up my plastic interior pieces before painting them.

Does anyone know if this would end up ruining the plastic?
