Interchangeable Interior Parts
Monday, April 18, 2005 4:16 PM
I was wondering if the center console from an 03+ sunfire would work in my 98. Would I be able to put it right in, or would I need new brackets and what not? I'd also like to know what dash parts (if any) are interchangeable from the newer models. I would think that they will work fine in an older car, but I don't know anything about the underlying structures of the newer dash. One other thing I've been curious about is if it's posible to relocate the stereo and HVAC box a bit higher up and closer together (Not in the center vents though) When I drive my car, my knee hits that center piece constantly and I can't F'n stand it, if I can, I'd like to shrink it down a bit.

Thanks.

Exactly my point LN095, I feel ripped off! besides the fact that I want the cleaner looking console with the cutouts for the power window switches.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, I'm too lazy and poor to be bothered with new brackets.

I have a 99... put a 00+ centre console in. I had to change the e-brake bracket (so the bolt under the power window switch would line up) and the front bracket (actually, I haven't done this yet... but I have to...)

The only bolts that lined up for me were the two in the centre console compartment itself.

Just cause it has two cupholders, doesn't mean they're worth a dam! They are so close to the front that any thing larger than a can of pop is in the way of either the radio or shifter.

I got rid of my '03 console just because of the cupholders.

I'm just gonna make a custom one in fiberglass.

Does anybody know a part # or how I can search for a 2000 or 99 one in a junkyard? I don't know if there's any way to search the internet for junkyards and parts.

I know the 2000 or '99 junkyard thing is a longshot but I had to ask, trying to save mony for materials and tools. Actually, I've pretty much made up my mind to just drive my lazy a s s the 1hr back to my hometown and dig mine out of storage.

Any info/advice on relocating the stereo and HVAC box. I had my dash apart once before so I kind of know how it's structured, but I don't know if it's possible or how difficult it may be to alter that structure. Thanks.

I'd like to find something classy and inspirational to say, but that just wouldn't be my style!
