The only way to paint interior.

Not saying this is, but rather asking if you guys agree. Every piece of interior I have painted I sanded with a 400 grit sand paper, then washed with soap and water. After that I use a degreaser because it seems grease is the one thing that doesnt let paint stick. I do 1 coat of primer, 2 light coats of paint with 1 dusting coat, follwoed by 2 coats of clear. Ive done many panels aside from my own and so far the paint has stuck eevry time. No bubbling no flaking and has lasted over a year so far. Thoughts?

Yea......seems like your doing it right if its not flaking or bubbling......what else is there to say. The only other alternative is fiberglassing and thats even more time consuming that sanding the texture off and making it smooth.

and unless your changing the shape of it somehow or altering it somehow then you dont need to fiberglass... just sand it smooth as you said

id suggest washing it with soap and water before u start sanding but other then that your process should get good results.

reason i say wash before you sand is because sanding it can actually push any chemicals on the piece further into the plastic.

Sounds like you have the right idea. The funny thing is the first time I painted my interior parts, I didn't sand anything (but I was also going for a factory look with just a different color). I used my favorite glass cleaner (Sprayway aerosol), then sprayed a thin coat of adhesion promoter, let it dry for about 10 minutes, then painted a few light coats (waiting about 10 minutes between). The paint has been on there for two years, and I've spilled stuff on my center console, cleaned it, no problems. The only thing that isn't still perfect is the center console cover, but that's because it's vinyl, and my daughter used to feel the need to climb into my car and stand on it all the time to look out the sunroof if it was open.

sometimes you get lucky. most of the times people that just do that are on here complaining about it chipping a few months later.
