I was in my car the other day an i was thinkin about the armrest on the center console. it always gets in my way(when shifting), it looks too big, and its kinda ugly. so i was thinking that i could do somethin like remove it completely and fiberglass a switch panel in its place. but i still want to be able to use the compartment under there. has someone done this before(i have searched and found nothing like i am asking) if so, any pics? other ideas are very welcome. thanks
i dont think ive seen that exact thing done, but if your arm hits the armres, then its prolly gonna hit the switches and your gonna be breaking them or just accidentally turning them on.

Does it have 1 cupholder up front or 2?

i have a 2002 base model cav(its got 2 cup holders) thats true about maybe hittin the switches but i'm losing at least a good inch or two if i take the cover off
Open up the cover, there a 3 screws at the hinge. remove them if you want the cover off.

or take out the entire console, turn it upside down, and cut off 2 inches from the "frame" as u might call it, then turn it back over and re-install it...its a little work, and u will have to make sure u follow the lines..but hey, it will be lower and still look stock...just a sugggestion
In my first cav i did what your talking about. I had a piece of diamond plate over it and all the switches there. In the end i had to put the top back on cause when the cops saw the switches they really @!#$ with you. Ive also seen somebody cut it in half and then glass it to make it longer. this might help you cause it will put the top back about 5 inches. When i get home ill look for it on cardomain my cell takes to long with pictures.

well took the pontiac symbol blew it up and printed it out taped it on and went to town on it with a dremel and cutoff disc, then sanded it down and painted it, now i took me about 3 hours to do becuase i also had to cut the innner liner on the console lid to accomadate my l.e.d.s and all.... i will take some pics of the underneath in the morn. for everyone.
just thought i would show everyone my little bit of "custom" work i did on my car....
awesome. that is pretty sweet. and yes a pic from underneath would be great. maybe later this week i'll have to stop by the junkyard, pick up an extra armrest and do some practicing

hmm, looks good. the color is hideous but it looks good. i am wondering if you can inset a pontiac badge in there and back light it....like shave out a little cove not all the way through and pop in the front badge from a 03 sunfire or something.
