hey all ..im going to recover my headliner and i have a few questions about how to..do i strip off all the old foam and fabric or can i get away with just covering over the existing fabric that is on the roof? Also i have spray glue made by 3m its called super trim adhesive part #08090 is this the right stuff?thanks for the help..phil
should work, but yes clean the headliner first. scrape all that crap off of there so your new liner will get a good grip on the milar (i think its milar) prep work is damn important to make anything look good
So your saying i have to take all the old stuff of then right??or can get away with putting it over the old fabric??..phil
no u dont have to take off the old stuff off, what if u want to go back to stock, i didnt take mine off i just covered it with vynal.
my friend just did his headliner in his neon, and i think he just put it over the old stuff and it looks good- depends on the amount of work you want to do

dont give advice if you dont know what you're talkin about
DONT pull the old stuff off. you'll have a hell of a time getting the spray adhesive to work good if you do. the original material works perfect to recover. spray the adhesive on the surface and the material you're covering with, and let sit for a few seconds to let it tack up a bit. than lay it and smooth with your hand. it seems hard in thought, but it goes on real easy.

looks like you need to take care of some wrinkling issues.
But yeah, def do NOT remove stock lining. Just do what eazy said and spray the adhesive, let it cure, then lay the fabric on flat. Trust me, it's a LOT easier to do it in short lengths. I recommend about 18" at a time, that way you get no wrinkles as long as you take your time.... I have another post saying pretty much that exact thing, so it makes me wonder if you searched????

yes i did search but didnt get a clear awnser......thanks to all who have awnsered me with the correct info...i am going to just put my fabric over the old fabric..as for the glue do i have the right stuff??phil
sorry for the small pic, but its all i have right now. not a single imperfection, and it was the first attempt at anything like that. just go slow, and it basically lays itself out

That sounds pretty much like the same stuff I used. Does it come out in kind of a spiderweb texture? I'm not sure on the brand of mine, but I'll look later if you still need it.
Eazy: I like... no, LOVE what you did with your dome light..... Kinda makes me want to redo mine with something more personal. (praying CarDomain will love me today)

the spiderweb is exactly what happened with mine. no matter how much prep and general work i did to try to get it right, it kept messing up on me. and thanks for the props on the dome light cover. i love that thing. i got another one from the junk yard today that im gonna experiment with a little. try and make it 2-tone
