painting vinyl dash

any way to do this instead of just dying the vinyl with SEM dye? ive seen it done, but do you just put coat after coat of primer on the vinyl and sand them down until the texture is gone, or do you paint the plastic under the vinyl, or do you just need to fiberglass it for the glossy shiny look? any opinion is welcome.

are you talking about the bezel around your radio or the top of the dash it self. i am lost.

if i am reading this right you want to sand down the soft top dah this is a no no. to get rid of the texture you would ahve to fiber glass your dash. you could all so re wrap it in a smoother material. most people dye their dash because it is cheap and very easy . if don't right i can look trick, next is re wraping the dash. easy but two people are best . then it is glassing the dash i know nothing about this but i know it gets exspensive, and it is hard if just starting out.

i say dye it . if you don't like it re wrap it ..

Just use SEM ..........its paint that you can spray in a paint gun or it is possible to get it in a spray can. I suppose your thinking that SEM is like a dye that you have to soak you dash in....its not, its paint.that bonds to vinyl and plastics .......but an adhesion promoter sprayed on first is a very good idea.

with SEM dye, can i eventually coat it to the point that it becomes smooth/glossy? or will the dash keep the squishy rough vinyl texture?

peel off the vinyl, use a razor blade, and then sand prime paint and clear the dash for that fiberglass look

dont listen to this guy....if you do that it wont fit right and you will have gaps all over the place

if you peel the vinyl off then you either have to recover it with something the same thickness of the vinyl... or fiberglass it
