Question about Guages
Friday, May 13, 2005 10:28 PM
alright, first off i know this is posted in the FAQ section.. but to be completely honest, the FAQ told me nothing about how to do this.. accept to remove the dash. i bought a set of white faced EL Glo gauges from ebay, and im going to try and install them tomorrow. i went here to find some clues on how to pull the needles off ( I hear that if you pull em off, that you F*ck them up, are they calibrated or something? Any help? ) and how im suppost to wire the sucker.. i know there are people that have posted this a million times, if anyone could point me to a past thread that someone has explained this before, that would be great, thanks.

Oh man, another post on this...well damn...

If you have a 2000+ Cavalier/Sunfire, DO NOT REMOVE THE NEEDLES! The needles have small motors in them and you'll destroy them by removing them. You'll have to remove the dash, remove the cover on the gauges, and slip the white faces OVER the needles. Be careful about doing it though. You can move the needles upwards to about the center, but do not pull them off, and do not pull them out. You have to slip them over. I know the little power connecter goes where the old clusters did, but thats all I know about it since I had my friend finish the wiring on it, lol

heres the deal:

2000+ : NEVER REMOVE NEEDLES. Ive never heard of anyone who sucessfully did this without breaking their cluster. Point all the needles up, and CAREFULLY slide the face over them. Wiring for a EL gauge face is simple... positive lead to a red wire, negative to ground.

1995-99: Only remove the needles if you have to. I still dont recommend it, based upon what I've heard.
