Gauge cluster swap
Monday, May 16, 2005 8:06 AM
I have bought 2 clusters for my 97 cavalier to replace the one without the tach. Neither will let my car run. It will start and then die and the theft system light comes on and flashes. Please help, I thought maybe it was passlock but it doesn't seem anyone else has this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

read the faq, at least i'm pretty sure the steps are in there. you have to start the car and then let it die. then you let it sit for about 15 minutes without opening any doors or anything. that will reprogram the theftlock. i had to do it when i swapped a z24 cluster into my cav.

What he said..

After you start he car and let it die, LEAVE the key in that position. After the light stops blinking turn the key back to you without taking the key out for about 10 seconds then start the car.. Should start right up.

Just a question.....cuz my speedometer likes to die sometimes...or most of the time i should say, it sits a 0....then it jumps to speed.

If i bought a new cluster off ebay...do my KM's stay the same ....i figure that info would be in the computer.

And do u think a new cluster would fix my prob ?

^ No, you have a 99 and a sunfire, the miles/km's are stored in the cluster itself, and must be sent out to be recalibrated.

Check your grounds.
