2002 cavalier tach install

I have a 2002 Cavalier that was not equipped with a tach from the factory. I would like to install an aftermarket tach but can't locate a tach lead for this. I have tried the purple wire from the wire loom that runs over the engine: no-go

Does anyone have any experience with an install of this nature. I'm under the impression I may need a tach adapter due to multiple coils but am not sure.

I've never heard of a 2000+ Cavalier without a tach? From what I know, the 2000-2005 all came with a tach as stock. You sure it is an 02?

the tach was not standard for the 00 - 02 Cavy's. You only got one if you had the sport package, an LS or RS

As far as the tach wire, I have no clue. It would be by far and away easier to swap in a Cavalier cluster with a tach or a Sunfire cluster. Any cluster off a 00 - 05 Cavy or sunfire will work. It's all plug and play.

Check Ebay for the cluster. the 2 cavy clusters and the 1 sunfire cluster I put in my 01 Cavy I got from there and they were around $40 shipped.

My mom's 2000 Cavalier is just a base Cavalier and it came with a tach. Look up gauge clusters for 00-05 Cavalier and you won't find one without a tach since it was standard.
