Ok so I am at the point where I have sanded all my plastic interior pieces with 220 grit they are nice and smooth to the touch.
I have a spray gun and am going to apply about 2 - 3 coats of high build primer.
Once the coats have been applied what tools do you use to sand the high build primer.
I have a orbital sander which has worked great to this point but they do not sell 400 grit discs for it so that tool is no longer an option.
I also have a palm and mouse sander.
Should I be using the palm or mouse sander as much as I can and then hand sand the tight spots or should I stick strictly with hand sanding at this point.
Also how much time should I spend with the 400 grit.. I mean I know I can feel how smooth it is by touch but should I do it even more just to make sure I get that nice finish? Im thinking yes.
Once I have sanded the high build primer should I move up to 600 grit or will 400 be fine?
Now as for the wetsanding with 400 grit I usually just have a wet sponge and squirt the area as I need to. Is this what everyone else does for their tequnique?
Finally, once I have wetsanded all pieces I was going to clean them with a wet rag.. is there anything that is better to get the pieces very clean before applying the base coat.
I am going to be using PPG most likely for the base coat paint.....
Any particular brands of high build primer I should use?

I just got done doing mine the same way your talking about. I applied the high build primer and then wet sanded with 400 till it was smooth. Add some dishwashing liquid to the water when you wet sand it......it makes the sandpaper slide better. I washed them off with a degreaser after that then applied the base coat and then clear. Good luck.
haha ya thats what I figured shifted.. I hate sanding so much but it's so worth it in the end.

your saying I should wetsand with soapy water? never head of that before.
What kind of degreaser did you use?
I used 3m paper. I actually heard about the soapy water on American hot rod. It cleans the surface while you sand at the same time. I went to my local autbody shop and asked them what type of degreaser and they recommended ppg degreaser so thats what i used.
for flat parts, get a block or a 3M squeege. The rest just wet sand by hand. And if your gonna use soap use Dove soap. My autobody teacher told me why its the only soap he ever uses, so long ago i cant remember y tho
somethin about no chemicals or dyes or somethin. Anyways i use it sometimes and it works well.
Wetsand BY HAND with 400, then 600 before you paint. DO NOT use an orbital or any other power/air tool... you'll risk cutting through the primer too quick... hand is the way to go.
(years of auto body/paint experience speaking here... plus I did my old interior up that way)
im in the process of doing my interior now. im using 400 then 800 the 1000 before i have it painted and cleared. the smoother you get it the better it turns out, im using a palm sander on the center console, but doing the trim around the gauge cluster by hand
if you are goin to use ppg then use the same product line
goin out side the product line will cause you problems
use ppg`s ncp 271 it`s a high build primer ratio is 3:1 using dt reducer
i say go with 400 then 600 then 1000 to get rid of any scratches you have

After applying the primer, sand it with 320 grit paper, then wet sand it with 600. voila. Use your hand, but the palm of your hand and try to keep it as flat as possible. Don't use your finger tips or else you'll get litle valleys that you won't notice til u paint it and the light hits it.
