i have a momo hub adapter and steering wheel but am having problems with them fitting, has anyone ran into problems or should everything fit together, no problem?
its an 05 cavalier.
I have a momo hub and steering wheel. They fit together perfectly. Whats not fitting? Like what part? Can u get a pictures?
the hole on the adapter is too big and it i have the right part number.
SO the problem is that the hub isn't going into the steering colom? Were did u buy it from. Call the place and tell them your having a problem with it.
I e-mauled the place and am waiting for their response. The hole with the splines in it is too big.
Is it part number 2401. That is the correct number for the momo adapter? Also, what year is your car?
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
part #2401 and its an 05 cavalier
just tried a second 2401 hub ith the same result the hub is too big. seems gm changed it on the 05's
What do you mean too long. First you said its too big now its too long. You need to explain yourself clearly and give exact details in order for us to help you.
^^^too long, never said that. re-read before you post. once again the hole in the hub isttoo big.
here is a pic of the hole in the hub adapter is is too big for the piece that it slides over. the hub adapter actually spins over the part it is suppose to contact.
Did you take the airbag spindle off? Its the round plastic piece thats on the hub. I think you have to remove it. I had to cut half of it off to put the hub on. What Im thinking is that your not sliding it far enough. Try to take that round airbag piece off. Im not sure how to take it off. I just cut open mine. And then fit the hub over it again. Can you at least see the teeth on the stock coloum?
titus, i will take pics of the steering wheel area of my car tomorrow along with closeups of the piece the hub slides onto.
is there suppose to be more groves in the hub than there are on the piece it slides onto?
I am having the opposite problem on a customer's 03 Cavalier. The hub is too small for the shaft on the car. But the splines on the adapter are bigger than the splins on the car's shaft. The adapter will not fit onto the shaft. We removed the "air bag clock spring" so that is not why it won't fit. We even tried another 2401 adapter. Same thing... no fit. If anyone has any photos of the adapter on a 03 or later Cavi it would be appriciated.
Bringing this back from the really dead... I've got the same problem as Sticker, has anyone found a fix? different adapter? Before you go saying try this this and this, all checks were made and everything is correct, its just that the taper on the momo adapter is wrong and the spline diameter is too large compared to my 03 sunfire. anyone that had the same problem and found a fix let me know. when i checked the diameter of the stock splines, they are smaller then the momo, so even if i ground a taper to make that work, I wouldn't be able to use it cause the splines won't catch.....help
somewhere in 03 they changed them to this new smaller splined one. I have an 03 steering column with tilt i wanted to use on my car but the car was made at the end of 2003. Joey baggs and a couple others with 03, bought their's new in early part of 2003 or late 2002 so for some reason they work on their cars.
As for now the only thing you can do is snag earlier version steering column off ebay and swap them out. I wanted the tilt feature real bad, but i am stuck with my stock 99 column for now.
thanks for the info. at least i know its not me. Mine was built in 10/02 and i purchased it new in the same month (no tilt). After pondering it overnight i think i'm going to press out the centers of the stock and the adapter. I'm then going to figure out how to get the stock one in the adapter, most likely some machining, pressing, and welding. I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the whole column so i'm going to try the swap first. I'll let you know how it goes....

correct. I've debated people about this issue in the past, and apparently somewhere in 03 they changed the size. My 03 used the 2401, but apparently that is only good for 95-02 and very few 03's. I assume My 03 was in the early production of that line
Ok, finally got around to installing my new steering wheel. I figured i'd just post this in case anyone else has the same problem. The steering shaft at the end IS different, at least on my 03 sunfire. I confirmed this by going to a junkyard and pulling out a steering shaft from a late 90's cavalier and comparing the two. Everything is exactly the same except the splines on the end. I ended up switching them out and everything went together nicely. It actually wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.
i used the 2401 in my 04 and it fit with no problems.
stock eco with 100 shot.
