I drive a sunfire and was wondering (without cutting it out) how do i just remove the rear deck/dask to refabricate it. I was re-ended about a year ago (pushed in about a foot and a half - yeah i was at a dead stop and the car just plowed into the back of me - talk about your whiplash) anyway, i dont know if things were altered or not. I just want to know the jest of it so i can get it out and redo it in another color.

just saw this post last night...oh well heres the answer.
pull the rear seat out, remove the plastic trianglular pieces of plastin on each side then pull the plastic retainers out of the rear deck.
should only take half an hour or so then cover in your choice of fabric or vinyl

they should be, 96 and 97 are nearly identical. removing the rear seat is tricky so you may want to do a search on how to remove them (i just saw one of those yesterday or the day before i think)
U don't have to take the seat out .........just fold down the back ........then remove........but if u want to make it easier remove the whole back seat and side trim panels and then remove it. Yes ........lots of work.....but alot easier.
Don't worry Sod Tiwaz.........I'm not saying the way u said is wrong ......I'm just give more details. Hope that helps.
coolfire
no worries coolfire, its been a year or more since i pulled my rear deck out (simply to clean it off and get the bugs out of there) my rear seat was most likely removed by that point and it was a snap to remove the rear deck. since i dont have an interior or my manual handy i wasn't positive on exactly what HAD to be removed but i know that if you remove the seat and panels it works
thanks for all the help
