what i want to do is install a pda into my stock steering wheel. my concerns are space and the air bag. will there be enough space to install a mount about an 0.5 inches in depth for the pda in the stock steering wheel airbag cover? and if so will the airbag still be able to funtion... well you know what i want to do and my concerns so what are your suggestions on executing this project. i have never really taken apart the stock steering wheel and airbag and dont plan to if one of you guys know this cant be done. any comments are appreciated.
thanks.
Well lets think about this...
Putting the PDA into the space in the center. The airbag pops out of the center... Therefore, through the wonderful transitive property we all loved in algebra, the PDA would come flying out when the airbag went off... And by the commutative property, you would then have a PDA embedded in your forehead. You would no longer be able to take standardized tests, since they don't allow the use of PDA's, your college career would falter, and you'd spend the rest of your life being the only man with a PDA in his forehead...
I'm at work and VERY bored

just remember if you keep the air bag in, whatever you install in the wheel is gonna be comin' at your face
^^^exactly. if you want a pda or anything in your steeringwheel, take the airbags out

new law...... air bags can't be removed or tampered with in anyway. if your car is in a shop and inspectors come an see the car with no air bags they will get a fine... and they might be closed down. and your car might be seized.
ok so removing the steering wheel airbag is out. i didnt really even WANT to do that anyway. and to respond to:

i am obviously going to have it securely fastened while it is mounted in the cover. so when the cover flys off or hinges open (im not sure what it does) the pda will be still attached. and i think you meant to apply some physics formulas rather than algebraic ones to your sad attempt at a joke.
anyways, how about someone post something when they can actually provide information thats worth my time reading.
Its a joke, lighten up...
No matter how you attach it, it WILL fly out. The cover is a rubber covering that splits in the H pattern that you see indented in the steering wheel. It tears open at the speed of sound. The airbags blow out with so much force that the passenger one rips the plastic cover away from the bolts that hold it down. In fact if you are sitting too close to it and you hit the airbags before they are fully inflated they can easily kill you.
Not counting my light hearted fun, there are 3 posts in here that tell you exactly that. And I did mean algebraic formula's, not physics, since the transitive, associative, and commutative properties are usually first encountered in a pre-algebra class, so I figured people would get it.

Don't EVER mount anything that may even remotely enter the path of the airbag when it deploy. Airbags can do some serious damage when they expand.
As a Paramedic I have seen to many people that were injuried by airbags, something that seems so minor such as a McDonalds cup, placed in the wrong place can be a deadly projectile. Alot of time and effert went into setting up the airbag systems in vehicles, leave things the way they are. Mount that PDA in the dash, center console, or any of the other 5 million possible locations you can dream up.
