I've been Busy this weekend.. So far :)
Saturday, June 11, 2005 7:51 PM

Well yah.. I've been busy. I worked 13 hour days all last week (but friday) andon friday i managed to bussle through town and pick up the wood & MDF I needed to start on this stuff. What you ask? the dreaded false floor for a back seat. So I did some work (1hr or 2) on Friday.. and the rest i worked on today. This is how it stands as of 6:30pm Saturday. I got the false floor COMPLETLY made, as well as working on the nitrous bottle install right now I started my Drivers side door speaker install, so all that's left is some fiberglassing to do to it! woot woot! I also got all of the fiberglass sides created for the Nitrous box (which the base can be seen in the pics of the false floor). SO I got TONS done this weekend. I hope tha tit moves along quickly and things go alright. Havent touche the radio bezel yet.. Im thinking maybe i'll do that as of tmrw, I still have to make the glass sides for it and stuff. lol But i got alot done, I found out not only am I a fuggin fiberglass freek, Imma damn good carpenter as well. lol hahha

These are pics of the begining of my speaker install in my door

This is the fiberglass for the nitrous box Im making

And Pics of my newly made false floor & nitrous set up (how it will be, but enclosed)

Nice nitrous tank.....it would probably b more effective if you didnt have it attached to that wood. Believe me, that will weigh down your car ALOT. I suggest fabricating some brackets but if you wanna go all out, work with fiber glass and just have somthing to reinforce it with!

as for the weight issue, Im not concerned. that's 1/4" very light wood. It's not going to weigh as much as the false wall that will be put in soon. lol and a sub attatched to it. I'm not concerned about weight, plus all this doesnt really weight that much. there are certain things i want, and will have that weight more than a gutted car, plus i drive a convertable just means i'll have to pump up the boost to go faster. hehe

Hey no prob man that floor for the bottom measured at 50some "s and it wouldnt fit in the car.. untill i cut it down (width wise) to near 47". So 47" is the majik # here. as for that platfor my nos fits on.. that was not in the plans for it. but you know that "hump" in the center of our back seats? yeah.. it's like a 1 1/2 -2 " rise to the platform. I didnt want the floor that high b/c of the side speakers you see I dont want to relocate them. LOL Im lazy, and i like them there in my vert. but that lil hump caused me hell.. so I just estimated and cut equal sized hole (measures from each end in) I can get the exzact dimensions for you. to help you when making it. As for the rounded cormers near the back.. I made a pattern for those out of cardboard. and went to town. I had to cutt that pattern into it twice tho having had shortened the width of the board several times in attempting to get it to simply fit into the car. LOL but for tips and stuff, please, man feel free to email me when you get the stuff and are ready to get started. I am harder to get ahold of on the weekends, mostly b/c i work on my cavy... but Mon - thurs I check mail all day every day. I'll help you however i can to make it easier for you.. so you wont have to go thru alot of the guess work i've had to in the last few days

Alright some updates for today, I got the nitrous bottle brackets Mounted and they fit great. I also went and got some Minwax wood protectant form indoor/outdoor use. Incase there would happen to be a moisture problem in my car, the wood will be protected. My day will consist of mostly putting up to 3 coats onto the wood peice today, probably no fiberglassing due to sanding and dust. With the wet peice of wood i dont want dust in it. But here's summore pics for you all and the progress as of Sunday @ 2:30pm.

The false floor w/ the Nitrous brakets installed

The false floor w/ bottle & brackets installed

The false floor w/ bottle & brackets installed nitrous feed line drilled.

Close-ups of the bottle mounted

A shot from underneath.. notice the support i made for the front mounts so the wood wont break.

These are the materials i bought for "Finishing" the wood portion of the project.

Moulding tape for the inside of my nitrous brackets.. so it wont scratch my paint later, coushins it.

Minwax Waterproofing urethane covering fo rmy wood peice, so moisture & wood rot wont be a problem.

Paint brushes for the minwax

These are pics of the wood after the first HEAVY coating for the false floor peice.

Another update w/ pics The urethane coating dried... it turned out really nice. now i don't have to worry about water dmg to the wood, incase something like Oh say I dont have a rear window in my convertable (Like now) lol or if i leave the top down and it starts to rain.. anything liek that. it'll only saturate the carpet hehe

ALSO i started making the frame for the box that will shroud my nitrous bottle.. here are some pics of the very bottom base frame to give you an idea. Now im still planning out the shape in my head if i want to do it more contoured up the box or not.. Im not sure yet. But it will have plexiglass Windows in the side of the box as i mentioned.. Tinted to 5%-10%... So you CAN'T See inside.. untill it's nite time and when the nitrous system is armed.. it will give power to blue neons... then you will be able to see inside and see the nitrous bottle. I think it'll turn out very very swanky! and a grea edition to show off as well. hehe but here.. fill your eyes with the goodness of pictures! haha

looking good! are you going to be covering the wood with vinyl, something else, or just leaving it stained?

that looks great man! you did a really good job with it.

i would ask for specific dimensions on the false floor, but they wouldnt do me any good. the vert rears are a little bit smaller than the coupe rears, but im not sure how much smaller they are. i was looking for some pointers on anything that might have occurred unexpected....like the floor wouldnt fit for one reason or another..something like that.

and the minwax is a good idea....i may have to do that too. and whats the power inverter for and where is it going?

anyway its looking great man....keep it up and post pics when everything is done...i still wanna see pics of the tv

The only unecpected thing i ran into was the width of the flase floor as well as that damned HUMP in the middle of our floors!!! I had to make that little box that the nitrous sits on to clear it lol other than that, it was cake. Yeah I currently have no rear window in the vert it froze last winter anf fell out in the shelf tha thte vert top lays in... so reguardless, it is a good idea to prevent certain water or dmg to my false floor. I just got the carperting on it yesterday, it's regular run-of-the-mill speaker box carpet, i got it from sounddomain.com for like $27.00 shipped. The only pointers I can give is under measure to fit that sucker in the car.. it'll be harder w/ the front seats in the car for you... it wasnt bad for me but i can take the top down. So you might wanan pull out hte seats to start workin on it for fitting and measuring. that way you wont be fighting the damned things. lol other then that it was simple. I made a pattern out of carboard for the contoured back for the sides so it would fit nicer, plus it flows a little better, looks a little more nice. other than that, it went w/o any hitches at all and it doenst weight that much at all either. maybe 12-15 lbs w/ the empty bottle strapped of If even that much. I used 1/4" plywood of the lightest selection (knowing my speakir box would be made of MDF) so it's not heavy at all. there still is a little bt underneath that sits on the bump.. but not much at all.. once it's screwed in and bolted down it wont move at all hehe when you start building one, keep in mind I cutt my width of the peice down 2 maybe 3 times almost 3" becuase of my side panels.. it wouldnt fit in easily.

Heheh the power inverter is for my PS2 it's going in the Vert I think imma put it beneath the dash.. somewhere. LOL not sure where yet. got that sucker for $26.00.. saw the same one at fuggin Best buy for $49.00 lol I was happy about that.
