Ok so i did a bunch of my painting in my interior with rattl cans..duplicolor truck, van and suv paint to be exact. But i fount the clear coat to not be a smooth as id like. Im painting my other pieces blue with automotive paint and was thinking or either going over the spray bombed stuff with auto paint or just re clearing it with auto clear. Will this work and does anyone know if it will be ok or screw up? thanks alot..phil

If you spray over crap, regardless if its automotive body paint or clear coat, it will still come out like crap.

Strip the paint off, and try again.

I use engine enamel, so the heat of the sun doesn't melt it or fade, works great!

i jsut painted my g/fs interior here is what i did it came out awesome:

sand down the parts with 600 or 1000 grit sand paper, then clean them with acetone to get rid of shaving and get rid of any grease or dirt on them, then apply a coat of kyrlon fusion, wait 15 minutes, apply another coat, wait 15 min and apply the 3rd coat, let dry for an hour and apply 3 coats of clear coat waiting 10 minutes between each coat

One variation of this that was worked well for me is to use the Krylon as a primer, then spray over it with automative paint. Krylon has proven (for me) to be a better primer than primer when it comes to plastics.

Doing it this way allows one to use a wider range of colors.

thats a good point, in my case the sanding of the plastic helped the primer bond and i had no problems
