I just recently bought a 04 cav. I just sank in over $2000 in the syereo and $500 into a 3 pillar gauge pod. I am 32 years old and my wife is pissed off cause I'm sinking a lot of money into my car. She keeps telling me I'm not a teenager anymore, she wants me to grow up. Maybe I am too old to be doin this. Just wandering if I'm the oldest person in here. Thanks

without a doubt you got screwed, im hoping you meant $500 into a 3 pillar gauge pod with some really nice gauges to go with it.
Thanks for all the smart ass comments. But I got the gauges custom made from speedhut. Each gauge was a little over $100. You can design them how you want them. I wanted them to match my dash gauges since I got them custom made from speed hut. Now everything matches. I love the way it looks. And I read in here alot of you guys said 2 each his own. You guys making fun of how much I spent really isn't helping me on the situation of me thinking I'm already to old to be doin this. Maybe I should keep the car and get rid of the wife. How old are some of you guys?
you're definately not the oldest. im only 18 but if you check the off topic section there have been threads on how old people are. keep doing what you want to do is my adivce. i know when im 32 years old i will probably be doing the same thing if cars dont fly by then.

j/k man, but really....if you were 60 and golfing everyday, would people clown on you? point is, you gotta keep doin what you like to do---it's key to staying young (I know, I'm only 23, but you gotta keep on doin what you like).
Just to reinforce my point---I work with a guy who is 60-something (our job is pretty physical). When asked how he managed to stay so young looking and healthy, he replies with: "You just have to do your own thing"
something along those lines anyway---get my point though?
man i wasnt being a smartass. the way you put it was like you spent 500 on just the 3 pillar gauge pod.
but your not to old man just keep us updated.
beside i have a buddy here in the army who made it a to be ranger and hes 35.
as long as you like doing it you're not to old. i'm only 21 but i can promice that the only age when i stop screwing with my cars is the age at which i am no longer able to pick up a wrench. but untill then nothing's going to stop me, age is only a number with no meaning other than possibally how much you think you know
LOL @ this thread...
I am 14 days away from being 32, and I still play video games, watch cartoons, race motorcross, teach Kung Fu and yes i still mod cars.
You are never too old to do something you have interest in...
At times I get too lazy to do them... But never too old!
My wife says the same shyte about me putting too much money into my hobbies also...
I tell her to STFU and enjoy the ride
29 and Modding happily

when i'm 80 yrs old... i better be turning wrenches, kuz if i'm not... i imagine i'll be 6 ft under
i'm actually hoping it'll be on classics, but then what won't be a classic by the time i'm 80??? (i'm 21) i agree, it's not how old you are it's how old you feel, tell your wife that you just want to do a little something, eventually you have to reach a end product, and if worse comes to worse, all the parts you bought can probly be resold for the same price you bought them, kuz there are ppl out there overcharging for lots of stuff, and you'd probly end up being one of the cheaper deals

I agree with these guys. I be modding as long as I have the money and the ability to work on my car. My uncle is in his late thirties, maybe early forties, and he works on his fifth avenue still to this day. All the work he's put in to it actually shows, it no longer looks like an old mans car. Remember growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional
I'm 32 also... have no wife, have no problem! HAHA
at least you're not doing other things that are bad with that money, like gambling or hiring hookers... You have to do something to keep you sane man, I was once married too... seems she could do anything with the money that she wanted and as soon as I spent some money and was happy, she was all pissy at me... I say both of you come to a compromise, you're going to spend money on your hobby and she's going to support you... hehe... does she gossip with her friends? If so, how elementry is that, who needs to 'grow up' now?
why not try and get the wife involved all you got to do is take her down the track once and shill be hooked.

I'm 41 and the wife bought me the Alpine head unit! I had to buy all new speakers and lots of Dynamat to go with it.
She also "sniped" the Celica spoiler off eBay for me. You're never too old to take pride in your ride!
I'm 30. I just consider myslef lucky that my wife loves the car as much as I do. We've met a lot of great people and made some great friends through all this.

It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
I am 29. The wife doesn't hassle me about the money I spens because 1) Its my money and 2) She sees it makes me happy.
Do with the woman like you'd do with a car that's giving you grief, trade er in or pawn er off on one of your friends... lol

I'll be 35 in aug. Wife and 2 kids, no money and a bug to mod cars!!!!(just starting). The wife doesent understand but at least not not out running around.
"If it's to loud than your to old!"
Well, i can understand how he feels with his wife. I'm 27 and live with my 25 Year old Girlfriend. She gets PISSED when ever I do something to the car... She feels we can't afford to be buying stuff for the car... Yet all the bills are paid on time and I have more money in my savings account than her.
AShe's on that kick right now because she found out about the ipod I hooked upto my sterio over the weekend. Nevermind I had to save for 2 1/2 months and make a few E-bay steals ($149 for a new 6gb iPod mini, $75 for the pioneer adapter) to do it.
None the less man, like I said before, if it's something you enjoy doing... By all means mod your car. Who cares what anybody else thinks. it's just water off a ducks back
So, what about those 50 year olg guys that fix up and mod old cars?
My wife was the same way until I got her hooked on modding her Mustang. Now she wants to spend more money than me. I still got to make her to the track.
I'm 27 (yeah, in my reg, the birthdate is wrong, but it won't let me change it) and I'm just getting started in my auto-tech school. My dad is 43 and LOVES doing work on his Alfa Romeo (as a matter of fact, he and I are in the middle of putting a new top on it), and my Grandfather is 65 and takes great pride in doing work with his cars. My Uncle is almost 50 and his current project is an 11 second Trans Am (all motor). Guess when you've got gasoline in your veins you're never too old. I like what somebody said in an earlier post- if I ever quit turning wrenches, put me in the ground.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
my dads 53 and wants me to bag his truck so he can scrape
its not about the age its about being happy with what you do
keep the modding going and if you need any help maybe us "young punks" can help
